Warrens

I will be taking my family to the waterpark/hotel in Warrens in two weeks when my kids have a 3 day weekend off from school. I believe that this area is in the southwest district.

Does anyone have some recommendations for memorable caches which could be done around this town during the winter months with kids?

I cant say that thees caches are anything special but we put out a cache in most of the parks in tomah and a couple on the hike and bike trail
warrens is only about 10 miles from tomah
there is a cache in the rest area on the west bound side about 10 west of warrens it is officers science cache it is a good hike to the top with a real good view

There quite a few in the Black River area that make for really nice hikes.

Thanks for the suggestions. Other people will appreciate them. It sounds like the area is a pretty one with lots of hills. It will probably be too cold for more than a single long hike with two kids (ages 6 and 8). We will definitely try for the officer’s cache. We’ll also try for some of the Tomah caches (but only the non-micro caches).

Did you get much snow down there? Some of the caches may be hard to find. We only got an inch up here.

Officers Scenic Cache GCE67 was my first cache find. I found it after a fresh 6-inch snowfall the previous day. It did teach me to bring a compass (it is hard to keep walking around to get the GPSr to settle on a direction on the top of a hill) but I often forget anyway. That cache still remains as one of my favorites! As others have suggested, it would be worth your efforts.

Just got back from our trip. The waterpark was great! The only thing we thought could have been improved on during our stay was the food as the place seems to continue to run like a campground. We hope to be able to return again some time.

Thanks for the suggestions. Officer’s Scenic Cache was clearly the highlight of the area. I’m glad we talked the kids into making the effort to make the hike up the hill (with me carrying one or the other of my kids on my shoulders) so we got our exercise for the day. We found 3 of the four non-micro caches we searched for in Tomah and enjoyed them. Our efforts were enhanced by the beautiful fresh snowfall. Unfortunately we missed most of that storm as we only got an inch up here (vs 5-6 inches down there).
