Well since this subject has strayed quite a bit, I might as well continue the line of thought.
My first computer was a Radio Shack Color Computer III – 8K of memory (who could possibly imagine needing more) and you hooked it up to a cassette recorder to save programs or load programs. Of course a monitor was out of the question and your TV became your monitor. Typing in programs out of computer magazines and amazed to watch them work.
Learning DOS was each users quest and much later when Windows came out I refused to use it as long as I could and insisted my children learn DOS.
Finally programming became my time taker. Basic and then Pascal were the home computing choices.

I used to teach an “Antiques Roadshow” unit to showcase the progression of computer technology. I had all of the old computers mentioned in my collection, plus some others. Remember the Northstar Horizon… TRS 80 Model III… Compaq ‘Portable’ – 40# and the size of a suitcase… Apple //+ & //e & //c & Mac 128… Funny thing is, I remember having many of these when they were state of the art, and being proud of how cool they were!

Ah, the good ole days. But I sure like my Athlon XP 2700 speed and 80gb hard drive and 512k RAM and Pipeline broadband!

Oh my gosh… my family too! Windows was for brain-dead people who had to see the information in front of them. DOS was a real computer user’s program!!!! HA HA!!! (Of course, you could never multi-task….)

    Life is good….
