We are really close to having what’s needed for zuma’s waterfall challenge. One trip along the Peshtigo would get it for us, but that’s a bit far for winter.

So…..what are the odds of finding the ones near the final (Grandfather Falls), Spike’s cache up near Hudson (I think it’s called Hark the Falls are Calling), the Big? Falls one near the town of the same name east of Point, and the one in Waupaca? Those are the closest ones for us now and might give us direction for a few caching trips if they can be reached safely and found without a Bobcat snow removal device.

They all should be pretty easy, its not like the falls have moved recently…

      😈

If you head to Big? Falls send me a email, I might make the trip down if time permits. have a few to do in the area.

Well, the falls do move, ya know! Just not at a rate we can fathom, LOL. So are they gonna be stinkers to find right now? I’ll keep you in mind for big falls. Darn thing is, we drove right past it when we did that epic Shawano WIG last summer. 😡

GC15GPP Big? Falls I have not done yet, so if you do it, email me first and I will go with ya if I can.

Of the others, the easiest is GC1NMPF. It is on the Willow River, a nice falls and would be fairly easy to find. It is not far from a frequently used trail so you likely would not have to break trail, and the cache is in an obvious beacon. Best to park in the lot west of the trails, not the lot south of the trails.

Thanks Ralph. By my count, we need three more falls. One of those could be Grandfather Falls when we go to get the final (and I think we have two chances there, right?)

Our winter break is coming up quickly and though we have tentative plans for one trip, it would be fun to try and wrap this one up, too. Plus, falls in the winter can be so awesome.

I’ve found the one in Waupaca and with some extra looking in the snow you should be able to find it. It was a bit tricky at first, but found what we thought was WP1 which lead us to the final. I looked and there was a DNF as the last post but I’m sure its still there.

Thanks, I was wondering about that one, especially given some DNFs, but we can maybe get up that way to give it the old college try. There’s a letterbox hybrid up that way we want to get, anyway!

We don’t have 4WD, so the WRR stuff will have to mostly finish up next spring. There might be a few we can manage, but there’s usually a reason they’re called “rustic.” We wanted to finish up both of these challenges in the next few months. Both of them highlight the kinds of places we love that caching helps us discover.

I’d be game for the Big? Falls cache, too. Let me know if you make it up this way.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

Despite the significant snowfall up here (and there’s more coming today!), I think the caches around Willow River Falls north of Hudson should be ok. Like zuma mentions, most of them near the falls are in a beacon and the trails going to them are multi-use. (There are alot of xc ski trails too if you’re in the mood to ski, and they do a great job of grooming them.) There is a decent hill to go up and down, but it’s maintained pretty well in the winter. The falls are pretty in the winter – it’s a very different scene now versus July. 🙂

There’s also Cascase Falls in Osceola, but that’s another hour or so north of Hudson. There’s an EC there and a couple regulars. The steps going down to the falls there can be a bit slick this time of year.

              Have fun!

Thanks Chris! We’ve done most of the caches in the St. Croix/Osceola area, but haven’t been to Willow River at all. And I know we didn’t get quite everything in Hudson yet. Might make for some fun snowshoeing, too. If we can resolve Trekkin’s issues with turf toe and ski boots, then that would be even better. Despite wanting to head for less snow, if we know the caches are more or less findable, that might be fun! Looking forward to it (I hope).
