While wandering about the woods on a cache hunt, sometimes you’ll see a spot that you just have to check out even though you know it is well away from any posted geocache. Today, I was hiking though a wooded section of a park and saw one of those spots. I went over there and found a box in there! I pulled it out and it was a Letterbox hide complete with stamp and log book. I paged though the book and saw several stamps and names that I didn’t recognize. I marked the coordinates to post them but some of these letterbox hunts take you on a bit of a journey, so I don’t want to spoil it for anyone ”cross-training”.

If you don’t know what Letter Boxing is, it is geocaching without the GPS. It dates back many years ago and I believe it originated in Jolly Olde England. Check out letterbox.org or something close to that.

There are letter boxes in more locations than there are geocaches. One source states that the sport of letterboxing is about a century old. Most letterboxes are in Euorope and the UK. There is one in Brown Deer Park that at least a half dozen cachers know about. This leads to the question of how many of their numbers stumble on our caches? And, How many “Cross trainers” are there out there?

      just curious,
