This thing better turn ugly. I had a cabin in the Porcupine Mountains rented for this weekend. The forecast was bad when we left after work but when we got up there it changed from a mild storm on Saturday to 18-20 with 45mph winds creating white out conditions all the way to Monday. We stopped at the Americ Inn right outside the park, had a beer, turned around and drove all the way home.
I really, really wish I was in that cabin next to the big lake right now with the snow coming down. Mile snowshoe in, no electricity, no water, just a small wood stove. But, we all had to be at work Monday morning. And as if that isn’t enough I have jury duty Monday too. Had to turn around…
It’s just not fair. If the forecast turns out to be wrong… well, I don’t even want to think about that. There’s a good 5-6 on the ground here right now though and it’s coming down pretty good. Of course, the belt on the snow blower decided to shred this morning too as I was doing the neighbor’s driveway…
370 miles for a beer. Dang.

just an inch here in Portage and it has stopped snowing for the moment. Cancelled an Appleton trip as the coming wind has us worried. Made 40 chocolate mice instead.
do you dip the mice in milk or dark chocolate?

12/11/2010 at 6:08 pm #1940055OPS, That sucks big time, I feel for you! What you describe is our picture of retirement….when you can follow through on something like that and if you need to hole up another day or two…..so be it!
I guess I kind of sort of hope the storm is all it was predicted. I just read that I-90 west of Albert Lea has been shut down now. Even Santa is waiting another week to come visiting from the North Pole at many area events, I understand. If Santa’s staying home, well you know it must be bad (or Rudolph has the flu).
12/11/2010 at 6:09 pm #1940056CamoQueen was ambitious and decided to shovel “just because”. That means I had to set my nice warm cup of coffee aside and go outside to help her. The driveway is clean as is the long sidewalk. Let it snow!!!!!!!!
12/11/2010 at 6:52 pm #1940057Absolutely nothing here and 33 degrees. I’m not complaining but we thought we would be snowbound by now! Weather warning from 6 PM tonight until 6 PM tomorrow.
Wish we could make it to Appleton but the Buttes des Mortes bridge could be bad tonight! We need to help a friend that is coming home from the hospital sometime today, as well.
Guess close to home will have to do. 😥12/11/2010 at 6:58 pm #1940058About a foot here at UW-Stout with no end in sight. Now the wind is starting to whip up.
12/11/2010 at 7:02 pm #1940059I blew probably 4 inches this morning and now it is coming down HARD, I will be glad if all we get is snow and no freezing rain. I got a 16 foot wall built in my garage this morning, only 2 more to go and then to insulate and sheet it, hoping to be done by tomorrow.
12/11/2010 at 7:04 pm #1940060Been snowing here since about midnight. Light at first, but really coming down now. I’d guess 6 – 8 inches so far. We canceled all of our plans and are just hunkered down at home.

12/11/2010 at 7:13 pm #1940061Gotta be all of 8 and still coming strong. Winch broke 2/3rds thru plowing this am. So off to fix that
I’m with you ops a cabin on the big lake (fully stocked of course) would be cool today
12/11/2010 at 7:19 pm #1940062Nothing for us in the southern latitude. Ran down across the Illinois border this AM on an errand and the roads were clear and dry. You guys who aren’t fans of snow could send some our way! 🙂
12/11/2010 at 7:42 pm #1940063Nothing in Sheboygan yet, though the winds have started to kick in. Have a few more things to run out for and then we’re staying home the rest of the weekend. Got this on Twitter from the Weather Channel a little while ago so maybe shades of what is to come here in far Eastern Wisconsin.
Blizzard warnings have now expanded into southwest WI and northwest IL
Could be an interesting evening perhaps.
12/11/2010 at 7:44 pm #1940064Just heard radio for first time today now calling for up to 20 inches from storm with most heavy in central wi
12/11/2010 at 8:01 pm #1940065dipped those mice in milk chocolate as I like a milder tasting mouse. Now I would definantly use dark chocolate for a rat.
12/11/2010 at 8:15 pm #1940066It’s raining.
12/11/2010 at 8:22 pm #1940067Lots of snow up here in the northern part. Outside my door it is higher than my knees. Looks like I am stuck in the house ’till spring. Very drifty and been snowing hard all day. Definately the biggest storm we have had for a few years.
