Wow… I still have 21 to go and a webcam. and I thought I had a good variety!! LOL
10/07/2008 at 1:14 am #1896716cheeto, That very thing actually happened to us at least once along the way. We’d gotten s|s “Pigeonholed,” then he went to do maintenance, decided he needed to ramp it up, and bingo, we had to refill the hole!
It happens. If they are all filled, run and get this one quick, LOL.

maybe I can talk Sagasu into dropping SSSS to a 4.5/4.5, there are several other 5/5s out there. 😀

10/07/2008 at 11:40 am #1896718Well, if there are 5 4.5/4.5 just in Wisconsin, that’s already better odds than we had with a greatly expanded search for 5/4. We went 250 miles out from home and found……4. One was closest at 150 miles away, and I spent HOURS trying to solve it…it was a physics puzzle. No luck. Contacted the owner, who said it’s not a desk solve, we’d have to get another measurement on site. So we went to one of the other 3. These are the stories one gets by working for the goal of WRC.
I would hope you’re just kidding, because part of the reason these caches are set up as they are is to encourage people to *work* toward a big challenge.

Oh, of course I am kidding. I would never dream of adulterating the challange by such means. (anyway, SSSS is my first 5/5 and I wouldn’t want it any other way.)

10/07/2008 at 8:51 pm #1896720Well this was a great way to find out I’m no longer a premium member. Sure would have been nice to have been given the chance to stay one. I guess GC.com doesn’t need the money anymore. 😯
10/07/2008 at 9:27 pm #1896721Make sure the email you have on the site is correct. When mine was expiring a few months ago, I got at least 3 emails reminding me to sign up.

Thats a surprise, we got emailed about 2 months ahead of time and then again a couple weeks before our expiration.

There are two 4.5/4.5’s in the New Berlin area. All of maybe 3 miles between them.
For me the 5 terrians will be the difficulty..no canoe, so we have to wait for hard water to get some of these. Unless we can find some out of state.
At least any caches work for this one. The one in Illinious you have to have 50% of the finds in that state, and 25% in certain counties.10/07/2008 at 10:06 pm #1896724Well this was a great way to find out I’m no longer a premium member
I’m sure you can easily pay them again and become a premium member very easily. They’ve streamlined the income generating process significantly in release website updates.
😉
They badgered me with many emails and I pulled the plug and paid again before mine expired.

Not surprised to see all the holes in my DT chart, up there with the rest of ya. Heck, I don’t even have a complete column or row to log that other DT related cache that only requires you to have a complete bingo-like set! But then I see that even Sagasu has 17 left to fill…
And Marc 4 digits has a bakers dozen left to get. I think Ralph might be the closest with only 5 holes. I get the feeling this one is going to go un-found for a very long time unless someone specifically takes the challenge head-on. Wonder who that is going to be?
Yeah, I am not far from getting it. I managed to find an 4/5 Earthcache in Nevada yesterday, so that will fill that hole. Yet the last couple will be the hardest to hit.

So happens on challenges like this if the owner of any of the caches you find decides that the difficulty or terrain is “not right” and changes it. Or they change it based on the seasons. You think you found one and then you didn’t!
Always willing to play devils advocate.
Yes, this is true. I thought I had a hole at 5/1, but the last time I loaded my finds into ITATN, the hole was filled. I checked to see which cache it was, and it was one I found in OR that was not at all a 5/1 or listed as a 5/1 when I found it, so there is some merit in your point. Even so, it is still a great idea.

Thanks for the offer Mathman, I know there is a series you created that covers most of the 5 terrains. Other problem is getting a free weekend to do something like that before the water gets hard
10/08/2008 at 11:54 am #1896729Ack! It happened to us!
I did a new PQ, and now we’re missing a hole on our D/T chart! Thank goodness we’d already gotten the final in MN. I cannot figure out where it went, and I know we had a couple in that hole, too. It’s hard to believe both could have been changed. I found one, and the owner, a newbie, changed it from a 5/3 to a 3/2.5. No way. It was a really tough multi. But we had another long before that one and I cannot remember what the other one was. Oh well.
If they get archived, that doesn’t change your chart.
So the moral is….once you fill that chart, don’t wait around to get the final!
