This was our 4th year at the Cache Bash. We brought 5 extra teams, including a few newbies.
We registered around 1:30 with no lines or problems at all. I did have a friend complain about her goodie bag that she didn’t receive all the “extras” and she was disappointed.
Overall we all had a great time with Geocaching and the locations. All the vendors were very nice and helpful.
A HUGE thank you for having bikes available for the Eisenbahn Trail, that was great, especially for me 🙂
Besides Geocaching, we had a blast with the Photo Scavenger Hunt !!
Thank you to all the volunteers. We’re all looking forward to next year’s Cache Ba$h.
08/16/2013 at 11:29 am #1971589Ah yes, my goodie bag didn’t contain a swimming coupon, which my kids were disappointed about. But I just asked around and there were plenty of people not using theirs so I got one anyway. And regarding swimming, the coupon says that it’s good for all weekend and yet they take your coupon when they give you a daily writstband so then you need another coupon. So again, on Saturday I just asked around and found someone that wasn’t using their coupon for swimming.

08/16/2013 at 12:00 pm #1971590One of our goodie bags was missing a lot (no swimming coupon, no bingo card, no blue clip, no WB travel magazine or whatever it’s called, no this vehicle is not abandoned) compared to the others. I thought it was because we weren’t listed as pre-registered, despite our will attend we posted in October. Maybe it just wasn’t fully packed?
I have to admit, I liked the toothbrush. Jacob took it to the boundary waters with him – as it was nice and small.

This is what I love to hear – these “behind the scenes” types of problems that I would not have known about since my kids are older. I will definitely have this addressed and perhaps we can work out some sort of wrist band for next year.
08/18/2013 at 4:40 pm #1971592Maybe instead of coupons or wristbands just have a open swimming weekend that West Bend can host saves on a lot of paperwork or worry abouts who got a coupon or not.

Great, thanks!

08/19/2013 at 3:22 am #1971594We loved the bash. We found 60 and we hope to get more next year. The only thing we would like to see is porta potties at the trail hides just for the bash. My wife had to hold it a while and that isn’t good in her condition. I know it costs money but all the women in the groups we were with thought we needed it. I had to be look out for them
08/28/2013 at 7:52 pm #1971595Thanks to EVERYONE who put this Amazing event together, lots of great memories. I do have some gripes that I want to share, in hopes to improve next year. We got to Regner about 10 a.m. Friday morning. I was in charge of 2 smartphones and 1 Garmin, Breesgirl was in charge of registration. I stood in 3 lines for at least 10 min a line with only 1 or 2 people in front of me. only to get to the front and have the guy tell me he can’t do 2 of the units and I have to go to another line and get the others done there. Everyone that was there with me had the same issues. The people at the booth paid NO attention to anything/anyone other than what was right in front of them. After about 20 min. some other people showed up to help out.? They kinda sat there looking kike they were going to help, but didn’t provide any assistance. There needed to be specific lines for the specific unit you need downloaded. All while I’m doing this Breesegirl is having problems with registration. There was some confusion on our team name. For the first year, we all have our own user names, so we all posted a “will attend” note on the site, for an accurate head count. We are team synthetic. The lady who was at the counter made the whole thing into a huge ordeal about how many goodie bags we should get. All we wanted was 1 and we ended up with 3. We tried giving 2 back, but she wouldn’t take them. We still didn’t win. 😥 After all of that we were on our way. The caches we found were ALL excellent. Love Ya Dr. Doolittle. We handed in 2 trackables in the “Jeeps Oh My” and only came home with 1. By the time they were brought out at the closing ceremony, it had been very picked over. Then on to the Bowling alley. WE arrived shortly after 7 p.m. First we stood in a line to nowhere for about 20 min, with no direction on what we should do either. Breesgirl finally grabbed a bartender and he got us on our way, to another line. These people were NOT ready for us at all. We ended up getting the last of the chicken they had prepared. We sat down, ate, and relaxed for a bit, and the people that were behind us in line, were still waiting 😥 The food was Very Good though. The chicken, the fries, the cake! There didn’t seem to be very many sponsors this year, where was West Bend with all the cookery stuff? This post is Not intended to come across as an angry post, please don’t anyone take it that way.Oh, by the way, where can I find the group pic from 2012 and 2013?
08/29/2013 at 3:11 pm #1971596With regards to the Iphone loading, there really isn’t any need to load. The caches were all available on the Geocaching app starting at 6AM. I was there in the afternoon (3-6) and showed several IPhone users how to access the caches (and filter so you don’t have all the normal caches in the list.) Hopefully you figured this out.
For the future, it is really much easier to download a pocket query of the caches to your GPS ahead of time. The file was available on the website at just after 6 AM, so either you could get it before you leave home or stop by a local fast food joint and download it there.
