After seeing that Bushwacking Queen was using her Palm to store caching info, I decided to see if my old Palm could do the same. Hooray, it does! We’re heading out this weekend to break the 100 mark and test out the Palm. Maybe not a huge milestone, but to a geocaching “newbie”, it’s a big deal. Have a great weekend!
10/28/2005 at 4:41 pm #1757582Going paperless IS a milestone . Welcome to la dolce vida.
10/28/2005 at 11:33 pm #1757583No milestone is ever trivial to anyone who attains it. Good luck on your attempt at 100 with your Palm. I have a Zire 31 myself, that I refer to periodically, but to be honest, I do enough multi and mystery caches where I need to write things down on something, so I usually wind up printing those sheets out anyways.
10/28/2005 at 11:38 pm #1757584Congrats!! Now will ya help me get my darn PlamPilot to work!!?? LOL The downfalls to buying from eBay I guess. Guess I’ll jsut have to hang with you and do my caching
10/30/2005 at 9:16 pm #1757585The world of geocaching is so different when you have everything at the touch of a button!
Brkster: there is a way to write the stuff down as I do it all the time while trying to figure out puzzles, etc.
Hope you hit your milestone and lets plan on caching together some time!
10/31/2005 at 2:32 am #1757586Thanks everyone! The Palm worked really well. We were hoping to get to 100 yesterday but ran out of time. 5 more to do, which we’ll try to get in during the week. Then I’ll have another milestone to share.
BQ, I’ll definitely take you up on that!!!
11/03/2005 at 1:58 am #1757587Well you can add me to the world of paperless caching.
My brother never thought it would be possible and at his persistence I finally made the move. Prompted by a trip last week to Washington DC. I was able to do 48 caches with just my palm and gps.
It really isn’t that difficult, once you have Cachemate and GSAK.
It is an adjustment not having that faithful piece of paper in your hand.
I will still take a print of unsual puzzle caches, like Port Puzzle or Son of Port Puzzle. But much less than the stacks of paper I would burn through.

11/03/2005 at 3:12 am #1757588Congratulations, Uncle_Fun! I’ll have to check out cachemate. Haven’t heard of it. I’m using Mobipocket on my Palm right now and not sure I like it.
Again, Congrats!11/03/2005 at 11:08 am #1757589At $8 to register, Cachemate is well worth it! It’s simple and yet a perfect database for our needs.
11/03/2005 at 2:29 pm #1757590I use Plucker and it is free. With plucker you can also “pluck” the news, say CNN.com, and download to your palm if you want to read the news while on a trip. It’s great if you are traveling and stuck on a plane, train, or automobile and want something to read (if not reading up on caches).
I have not experienced cachmate but I believe it is very similar to plucker. If you have bluetooth capabilities I think cachmate is better (i.e. you can post from the field?).
