Wow. What a great event!!!!!!
There are tons of people to congratulate here, but first off I have to tip my hat to Tami of the Ecorangers who was the brains and the inspiration of the event, unless my guess is wrong. Also it has to be said that West Bend would never have been the caching mecca that the West Bend Chamber of Commerce rightfully claims it is without the long history and hard work of the Ecorangers of putting out a lot of great caches in the West Bend area.
I got to meet LDove at the event, and I really appreciate her great work on the event, and doing all of the things needed to get the whole thing working and approved by TPTB. And a tip of the hat also to Pharmgirl and Jeremy as well, as these 4 great cachers worked well with the local Chamber in pulling off a great event. What a great team effort!!!!
I also have to congratulate the Chamber for having the wisdom of seeing caching as a unique way of bringing in more tourism dollars into their great area. I think it is obvious that the Chamber folks did a lot of grunt work on this as well, and were at the same time smart enough to listen to the advice of the expert cachers in their community, and worked cooperatively to pull off a first class event.
I know that our team had a great time, and I could tell that a lot of other people did too, and I liked the way the social event was set up afterwards from 4:30 to 6:30. I really enjoyed talking to a lot of old friends here, and meeting a few new folks as well.
And congratulations to all the teams that found all 51 caches. Our team found “only” 45, but I know that there were quite a few folks who found em all. So congrats to the teams that found em all.
And a bit of humorous congratulations to WI Robin’s son Ninja Cat, who is only 12. I had the honor of sharing the trails for a half dozen caches with Wade of the Ecorangers, something that I have wanted to do for a long time. However, it was Ninja Cat who scored the tough finds, while Wade and the rest of our team hunted in the wrong places. I guess no matter how many ya find, a 12 year old is still a good thing to have along to find the tough ones.
Congrats to all involved on a first class event.

08/18/2008 at 5:56 pm #1894594Yep it was a super event, and I’m sure lots of folks hit milestones during it….Black Belts and I teamed up for 55 finds on the day (a record for both of our teams). We had time for lots more finds…but sometimes the body is just not willing to play nice…..I was very tired after chasing all around West Bend. I’m glad we took the time to meet and greet back at the park rather than trying to cram even more cache finds on the day.
We met so many new cachers and bumped into lots of folks we knew as well….a great time was had!
Thanks so much to Ecorangers, LDove, Pharmgirl, Jeremy and all the others who helped get this off the ground and just as importantly to run so smoothly….and congrats to all the finders of the magic 51 as well as the prize winners (including Pharmteam).

The efforts of the West Bend Chamber of Commerce cannot be understated. The amount of time and money they invested in this event was incredible. They also truly wanted to understand what geocaching was all about, and were serious about building an event that would be “first class”. The fact that the final count will likely show that this event was nearly twice as large (based on attendance) as any other Wisconsin / WGA geocaching event held to date is evidence of their incredible work.
Also be sure to check out the photo slide show in the news article… 🙂

Ralph, I’m sure you would have found them all if you would have gotten your Nuvi loaded properly at the start of the event. I know I promised we’d be able to handle this, so I apologize to all the Nuvi owners who spent way more time than they should have in line rather than out finding caches. Our download crew has learned from this experience and will do better with them next time.
08/19/2008 at 3:32 pm #1894597There is no doubt that an event does not run that smoothly without a lot of effort on the organizers part. I know we are looking forward to heading up there again. I sure hope it becomes an annual event.
But the real question on our mind is: Did Pharmgirl manage to pass along her travel bug on Friday night?????
08/19/2008 at 3:52 pm #1894598So did any of you get a chance to enter the Summer Melt-down Cointest? I noticed that the coin I moved from Greenville (thanks zoesbro) down to the Milwaukee area ended up at the event in West Bend….

Haha… yes I did!! I felt a little bad because a newbie team got stuck with it (they’ve only been caching 2 weeks). Maybe they managed to pawn it off on somebody Saturday?

What was it? The Illinois State Bird? I had that for a while … until it got REALLY annoying.
08/20/2008 at 12:21 am #1894602Or was she stuck with the wheel or whatever it was? We saw that at the Camp-Out, and it’s one I didn’t even bother to discover! LOL
08/20/2008 at 8:45 pm #1894603It was the big toilet seat. Somebody left it under my tent at the campout.
