To what extent should the WGA support the only mega event in Wisconsin, the West Bend Cash Bash?

01/16/2013 at 11:22 pm #1967312I feel that this year, a joint venture between Leave No Trace and WGA would be a perfect marriage at this event. Just having a booth is one thing, but being in the field is another. Being in the field would help aid in the Outdoor Ethics committment that we have in our bylaws!
01/16/2013 at 11:57 pm #1967313I think that our involvement in the event should stay like it is, Having our booth Fri and Sat, and the Pancake Breakfast on Sunday. If WBCB would make a donation, or share in the profits from the event, then I would say we could help run the event. So far they have done a great job with out us, and we should keep it that way.
01/17/2013 at 5:16 am #1967314The West Bend Cache Bash is a commercial enterprise .. sorry due to it’s management and sponsorship that is how I view it.
I would support continuing our involvement as it has been .. offering the Geo 101 class that I have taught the past several years (and Jeremy before me) and having a booth to inform people about the WGA. And, hosting the WGA pancake event the next day.
01/29/2013 at 1:56 pm #1967315I would continue our involvement at about the level we’re at. We have a definite presence with our booth, Geo 101, random volunteers and the pancake breakfast. As a mega event that is put on by a chamber of commerce, this is a great way to promote geocaching in Wisconsin and our organization. No one ever said we had to be in charge of everything, so I say let them go and help them out if they ask.
01/29/2013 at 5:54 pm #1967316Because of scheduling conflicts the past few years I’ve only been to one Cache Bash, which was last summer, so I’m not sure I’m an expert in this area. But the impression that I got was that the Bash was West Bend’s “party”. While the WGA had a booth there and was available and definitely had a presence there helping out, I don’t think it would be appropriate to do much more than that. The pancake breakfast the next day was great as the festivities of the Bash seemed pretty much over from the city’s perspective. I had a great time talking with other WGA members and was glad that I came back for it.
