The West Bend event is finally here…OK a week away, but I’m curious how many caches folks will be attempting this next weekend in West Bend.

*EDIT Not sure what I do wrong when setting up polls, but there was also an option for 76 and over

I’ve never been to a MEGA before or even one that had a shot at becoming MEGA, So, I am wondering if it is going to be akin to trying to get a Brat at Lambeau Field at Halftime, standing in line to sign a log at the new caches to get that extra ticket for the raffle.

so in addition to the number of caches you are shooting for, are your plans to go for the new ones or to avoid the crowds and go after the numerous other caches and forego the raffle chances.

for me, the new water caches may be a choice, but I kinda do dislike large crowds. I may chase the older caches. Gotta start looking at the Card Sharks series again.

Actually last years event wasn’t too bad I only ran into about 15 teams in the 50 caches I did…but there are LOTS more folks this year. Geobash last year wasn’t too bad either with my son and I only running into maybe a half a dozen folks on trail.

I think they did a good thing at West Bend’s event this year by spreading the caches out further so the chance of “Lines” at caches will be lessened….

I’m going after the old ones on Friday and Sunday and the new ones on Saturday….I’m hoping for good weather and 100 finds.

I would recommend for people who don’t want to fight the crowds and feel that their odds of winning a prize (somewhere around 1 in 50,000 – that is if everyone gets 50) 😯 and feels that it is just are not worth the wait – to get last year’s caches or many of the other ones in the area. This year’s caches are spaced out a bit farther, but there will probably still be lots of people going for them. You may want to plan your route accordingly and go out farthest first and and work your way back towards command central at Regner later. For instance, you could do the rat series on the Eisenbahn for a nice walk or the rainbow egg series which is also a great hike on the Ice Age Trail. Perhaps start in the middle as newer teams are going to probably go for the closest first if planning a route. Just a few suggestions for those with maybe small kids who don’t necessarily want to get all 50, but just have fun – go for last year’s – many of them are still up and running and doing just fine. I checked on all of mine last week! 😛

Oh and don’t forget your trade and swag items. Caches will start out with some swag, but we are counting on cachers to make it interesting and bring their stuff along too.

We’re going to go purely for numbers. It doesn’t have to be part of the raffle. We are going to set our personal best that day.

Since we only live 25 minutes away finding many of the new caches is not a priority, they’ll still be there on Monday. We plan on doing most of our Saturday geocaching in the Kewaskum area and will grab any of the new ones up that way. We plan on attending all three days and the social aspects of the weekend will take priority over geocaching. That’s the nice part of already having found more this year than all of last year.

It’s about an hour for me so geocaches are going to be found as I hate to have to drive all that way to go another round with the local tupperware…if other geocachers happen to get in the way, then “howdy and well met.” I think the only real down time I will have for sayin hello will be after booklet turn in on Sat until they anounce the winners….then it’s off on the road again hunting down some film cans in need of attention……If possible I’d love to set a new one day record…I think I’m at 55 or so (set last year at this event).

No matter what, fun will be had and geocachers will be met. Hope to see you and the fam there Bill….but don’t be offended if I wave and run…….. 😈

I did 53 at last years event which was a personal best until GeoWoodstock where I did 83. I remember being very tired after turning in my card with all 51 caches found. I turned my card in 10 minutes before the deadline and started right at the beginning. I did learn a few things last year though and realized I passed many caches on the way to get my stamps. With the lessons I learned, I plan on having a few more “tools” available to me and hope to have plenty of time to get a few of the kayak caches this year. I think 65 would be a great one day number at this event.

You also forget the other end, NONE. That’s how many I intend to find. I have a hard enough time being social with 5 people, much less 500. Doesn’t sound like my idea of a good time, but that’s just me. Put me down for none, in any case.

I am excited to have so many caches to find in one area.. my finds will come down to the kiddies and how happy they are but we have Fri/ Sat/ Sun so if I get 50+ I will be very pleased. Would love to do the water ones and will bring my kayak but that’ll involve some negotiating with hubby to get done! love the idea of the diving one as well.. the more challenges the better. Can’t wait for it anyway!

We’ll be getting into town some time Friday night, so not too much caching then. I volunteered for Saturday morning and Mrs. TBC volunteered for Saturday afternoon, so not much time left. Even so, we’ll end up picking and choosing a few nice caches and probably get around 20 for the weekend. Might go P&Ging on Sunday before blowing out of town for a few more.

I will only be there Saturday, and I will go for the new caches, because I have another West Bend outing this fall where I can attempt those I missed last year, and any others in the area.

My goal is 31-50, which would be more than last year, my first real geocaching adventure. I think I had about 10 finds prior to coming to West Bend last year, so with a solid year under my belt, things can only get better.

Last year I only encountered a “line” of about 4 people, which was actually just one team. It was nice to meet a few teams along the way. Sure, it will be more crowded this year, but as many of you have said, geocachers are some of the friendliest people we’ve met. Something for all–the kids, those looking for numbers, water caches, social events, prizes…Not a bad way to spend a weekend.

Thanks so much for that …and thanks to all the other folks making this event filled weekend possible…I’m gonna owe some volunteer time next year I think; this year I’m going for broke…….

I’d love to get 50+ caches, but realistically, I’ll be happy with 5 right now.

        Ditto.
