In my opinion, Wet Maze 2.300 would be safer than The Expedition right now.
With the water risk almost a mile from the parking area at The Expedition, it would be a cold, dangerous return walk in below 0 wind chills with wet clothes on.
I’m not saying that 2.300 will be dryer, but it will be a shorter walk. I don’t want cachers missing the LCG Event because of unsafe ice conditions or frost bite. The cattails will be the issue at 2.300. If they went down in this rain/snow, you may need a machete to get to GZ!
02/01/2013 at 12:21 am #1967544Why would we need a machete? I thought we had an escort.

02/01/2013 at 1:19 am #1967545AstroD may be up for a trip to the Wet Maze on Saturday depending on departure time and a few other factors…..
02/01/2013 at 4:29 am #1967546Nix The Expedition for Saturday. Too stinking cold to be doing that much hiking. However, Wet Maze 2.3 is a must for our 10,000. We need to grab Gallagher Marsh – GC2KZ3E – first to get the coordinates for Wet Maze 2.3. Jim….how much time do you think we need to allot for these two caches (realistically)? And do we get the escort or do we really need to bring a machete? I know the Hitwoman is coming along….who else is up for this?

02/01/2013 at 7:43 am #1967547Seriously, I’ve only been to Wet Maze 2.300 once…when I placed it!
Gallagher Marsh should take about 45 minutes max, probably less. Then 5 minutes to drive around to Hwy. TC and, most likely, road parking. That’s about as far as my estimate goes! It could take from 1-2 hours, depending on what you run into in the marsh. So, 2-3 hours, unless you need to back off.
How about Gallagher Marsh at 9:30 AM, followed by WetMaze 2.300 at 10:30? It’s about a 45 minute drive to Horicon afterwards. If your running late, you’ll still have time to get there. The escort service will, most likely, not be there! I have my scruples, ya know! 😉
02/01/2013 at 3:07 pm #1967548The hippies would be up for some 10k celebrating, but I don’t think we can make it up in time for Gallagher Marsh. Have to get wife ready for work and then 1.5+ hour drive.
If the most esteemed escort doesn’t mind, maybe we’ll join the fun and then work a reverse Wet Maze 😉
02/01/2013 at 11:20 pm #1967549We’re game! We already have Gallagher Marsh so will meet at Wet Maze 2.3. We’ll plan on being there around 10:15 to scout out the parking area. Maybe we’ll be able to get back there!
02/01/2013 at 11:31 pm #1967550As long as you put family first, KFH, you may kibitz on 2.300! I may drive by and BEEP, just for fun!
02/02/2013 at 1:52 am #1967551Okay everyone…here is our plan. The Hitwoman has something in Appleton at 9:30. She should be done at 10:30 and we will leave then. That will put us at Gallagher’s Marsh between 11:15 and 11:30. And then we are off from there. Gallagher’s Marsh will be #9,999 for us and then Wet Maze 2.3 will be our #10,000. So whoever can join us – would love to see you! Dress warmly and bring dry clothes and a camera of course!

02/02/2013 at 1:57 am #1967552Pretty sure I may have to miss the Big One Zero Zero Zero Zero but may be able to make the Gallagher Marsh.
Last minute call on this since we have to be at Horicon at 12:30.
*sigh* responsibilities…
Following the signals from space.
02/02/2013 at 2:15 am #1967553Looks like we probably won’t be able to make it either. Have to help WA set up in Horicon at 12:30. Let us know how it goes and have a great time!!
02/02/2013 at 3:56 am #1967554Pre-Congrats Lacknothing! Despite my wishful thinking, my knee isn’t quite healed up enough for this kind of trek yet. Bummer! Have fun and celebrate wildly!!
02/02/2013 at 4:05 am #1967555We’ll see you for both tomorrow then, should be fun…because I’m kinda crazy like that 😀
02/02/2013 at 5:49 am #1967556I’ll post on here when we do take off so everyone has a better idea of timing.

02/02/2013 at 3:18 pm #1967557To my thinking, finding Gallagher Marsh isn’t an easy thing.
If there had been this much snow when I did it I still wouldn’t have found it.
Course I don’t have PAF either. -
