Hey all- I was posting the code to my new cache pages when I noticed what we had here on the website had a couple syntax issues. I fixed those and now I have tried the code and the “broken link” seems to be fixed. Feel free to use the code easily for your cache pages once again!

“Sin tax”? I didn’t know there was any such thing! I’m glad you fixed it though. Those of us on Santa’s naughty list have been a little concerned. Thanks 🙂

I seemed to be having issues recently ie tonight/lastnight with some new caches and copy and pasting the banners. It’s been with the quotes. They seem to be of a unique style and when I copy to geocaching.com and saving it is duplicating them. Not sure if thats geocaching.com or the source of the copy. But the original from the copy are slanted a little. I can replace those before saving and it all works ok. :/ Not sure if I’m the only one.

Thanks Chris. All I had done with the old version was change the direction of the quotes which seemed to be mucking up the code.

If anyone has a cleaner version of this let me know and we can replace this one with something better.

You were right, the quotes still looked funny. I tried it again and saved it. Will look at it again tonight.

They aren’t working for me either, even on my old cache pages!

They aren’t working for me either, even on my old cache pages!

I’ll look at retyping this and testing again. The banner link is not dynamic (that one we would occasionally update, went away with the change to the new website) so what ever code you have should still work.

I have pasted the code from notepad and updated the CACHE PAGE BANNER page to keep any formatting stuff from browsers out of it. I have pasted the code into an html editor on Chrome and I.E. 11.

I am unable to NOT make it work.

Even after all of this, the code on our website keeps turning the quotes to something odd.

I cannot fix this I am guessing. I type it correctly on the page and it converts it to the wrong way. Ugh.

Yea looking at it it seems as WordPress will automatically convert quotes to “smart quotes” ie make them slanted on either side. But no option to disable that from quick google searches.

But on the text tab I was able to use the html code “& q u o t ; ” and at least on my personal WP site it seemed not to convert those to the smart quotes when otherwise it did. Else could use a plugin that will enable php code on either a post/page and use the function ent2ncr( $text ) which within $text you can state the html code it should then work.

But like I first stated using & q u o t ; ” instead while on the text tab for editing seemed to prevent the conversion to smart quotes. :/

Chris, interested in seeing if there is a plug in for this or if we can just add a text box to make this work right?

Here is the text in the notepad document attached.

Ok, I figures out how to add a text document for the cache page banners. If you follow the hyperlink, you will get a text document that has the unadulterated html in it.

For fun I even checked it to make sure I didn’t screw it up.
