Okay, not sure what to actually call it. One thing that has been discussed by some of the Board to provide more opportunities in more places for cachers to get together and meet has been to provide something like the Breakfast Buddies events hosted by the Minnesota Geocaching Association. Talking with some of the folks who’ve had a hand in that over the years, this is how it works.
The membership is asked about their interest in hosting a Saturday morning get-together at a local coffee shop or breakfast diner. Different locations are suggested. Someone locally helps to set up the location and stir up more interest in the local caching community. A Board member tries to be present at these events. They are totally social. Not any meetings, nothing formal. Get together, meet others, chew the fat. No need to place a bunch of caches or organize any group hunting, just keep it simple. Those who want to cache….will.
This is a great opportunity for the folks who live in those less populated caching areas to meet others. Meet at least one Board member. The MN version is held monthly.
So….if you have an interest in helping to arrange an easy and informal chance to get together, post your location, suggestions for a venue and possible months/dates. It would be nice to maybe plan this on the same Saturday of the month, but not necessary. Thank you.
12/14/2010 at 11:56 pm #1940363I’m in. We hosted an event last Saturday at a George Webb’s in Sussex and they said they would be happy to have us again. Forty-six cachers attended. There were many newbies and they had a good time. I did hide 9 new caches, but I think most would have come even without them. The event was scheduled for an hour and a half and it lasted for two and one half. I was already thinking about another before I read this and with no caches, but some type of theme. So I’ll be waiting to hear from my BOD volunteer. Auntienae was present on Saturday, but she has two events she is holding in January so someone new would be nice. So contact me and we can get something set up for February.
12/15/2010 at 2:44 am #1940364Hey! That sounds like something that I was thinking of doing locally.. In fact I was just going to post something on that facebook page to see if their was any interest.
12/15/2010 at 3:55 am #1940365Local cachers from Oak Creek, Racine, and Kenosha meet EVERY (well, almost) saturday at place in Racine called Wilson’s Coffee. We gab for an hour or 2 and sometimes some of us go out caching afterwards, but many times we do not. Our group is often around 15+ cachers and it’s a great time. The shop owners have been good to us and have even sponsored T-shirts that we often wear to events around the state.
Heck, even TJSAAVERDA comes down once and awhile from Wisconsin Rapids! 😉
Anyone that caches and might happen to be in the area is more than welcome to join us at N42 43.124 W087 49.138 OR 3306 Washington Avenue, Racine, WI from 8am to 9:30am
Oh yeah, we might also be willing to hold an event. 😆 We were going to be there anyways.
12/16/2010 at 4:40 am #1940366Love the idea, so I could probably put something together in the Madison area at some point.
12/16/2010 at 1:08 pm #1940367We are planing on doing a Meet, Eat, & Greet sometime next month. It will either be in Stoughton or Madison. I am just waiting on return phone calls. Any local feedback to help decide on location would be great.

12/17/2010 at 6:48 pm #1940369Ditto what Jake said. We do a similar meet and greet on Thursday mornings in Kenosha, although attendance seems to fade in the winter months. 😀 It has to be about three years we’ve been doing it now.
12/31/2010 at 1:34 pm #1940370We’re looking into having a “MUG-A-JOE” event for the Hudson Hot Air Affair weekend.
DB and Spike01/06/2011 at 3:04 pm #1940371Here’s one…
How about a Saturday morning breakfast and/or coffee at Sunset Resort on Washington Island? Memorial Day weekend would be the earliest date (also may be the best weekend as far as fewer tourists) and/or it could be as late as a September Saturday. A few logistics to work out, but it’s very doable.
01/06/2011 at 4:25 pm #1940372I’d love to do that, actually. We’d hoped to get up to Door County during our Christmas break, but that didn’t happen. This is the type of response we’re hoping to see, from folks where there aren’t typically events already occurring, especially at those “fringe” areas of the state. I suspect there are caching communities out there, cause someone’s putting out caches. A fall event might be really fun up there….we’ve visited every other season ourselves (and love winter the most).
01/06/2011 at 4:36 pm #1940373I posted it in another thread somewhere but we are planning a Cuppa Caching (is that the name we’re using?) event in Plattville. No date set yet.
01/06/2011 at 4:59 pm #1940374Brian, That would be awesome. Sure, Cuppa Caching, why not? I missed that post somehow, but keep us informed.
