I’m glad the board of directors candidates are willing to serve (thank you!), but what about availability?  Each year, the WGA hosts at least five statewide events that board members are expected to attend:

    • A spring campout (May)
    • A fall picnic (September)
    • A winter bonfire/chili feed get together
    • A summer pancake breakfast at the West Bend mega event
    • A winter Lonely Cache Game (LCG) event

In addition to those events, the WGA usually hosts one or more CITO events in various parts of the state that typically have some BOD member’s participation.  The board members also have at least one face to face board meeting each year (typically in January or February).

Assuming at least one board meeting, the five WGA events, and possibly one CITO event, (that’s 7 total) and they’re located in different parts of the state, how many of these are you realistically able to commit to participating in as a board of director’s member?

I considered my ability to be an active board member before accepting the nomination. I believe when you commit yourself to serving on a committee (such as BOD)  it is of most importance to be very active.  If I am fortunate enough to fill a position on the board, I will make it my obligation to serve and attend the various events throughout the year.  I will attend the board meeting.  I’ve volunteered to host the Lonely Cache Event during the Chili Feed, which I will be attending. We will be at Cache Bash.  In the past, I have annually hosted an event for CITO weekend but would be willing to make adjustments as needed. Holding a position in furthering this hobby I have come to much enjoy seems like more of a pleasure then a task.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

I am committed to making 6 of the 7 this year.  Unfortunately, I have a vacation planned to Ohio during the spring campout, but will be available for all of the other events.

For a while we attended as many as the WGA events we could.  Most of the time our vacations are usually planned before the WGA set the locations and it just seemed the last few years that made it difficult to make them.  As the communication to location of each event is given with advance notice we are happy to find a camping location near and attend.  All but 1 event is in question for us.  That would be the Spring campout.  Unfortunately, baseball season began practice at the beginning of the month, playoffs end in July.  That is the only commitment besides working that could be in the way.

My goal is to make it to all the WGA events, but that’s not the reality of life.  I already know I won’t be making it to the spring campout. Of course this was planned without me being a board member, so I had no say in what weekend it took place.  The chili feed/LCG event however, I have that scheduled with no conflicts. For the rest of the events this year, I of course will work with everyone else to make sure we can plan around everyone’s schedule.  I know this isn’t always possible, but we should make sure to be as accommodating as we can to get the best attendance, not only of the board, but the general membership as well.  The board meeting should make sure to include everyone, especially the new members, as they will need to find out what their next two years of WGA life will be like.  After the planning, as long as there aren’t any life altering changes, I should make six of the seven spoken of events.

My posts should in no way be considered as the views or opinions of the WGA or its Board of Directors. All posts made under my name are my personal opinions only.

Quoting myself from my answer on another question “I have personally been to the following:  Interstate, Governor Thompson, Lake Wissota, Kettle Moraine South, Bong, Lapham Peak, Governor Dodge, Mirror Lake, Hartman Creek, Pike Lake, Brunet Island, High Cliff, Horicon Marsh, Black River and Peninsula.  I have only missed Pattison due to the distance and not being able to take off work to get there and back, Wildcat and Roch-A-Cre due to family weddings.”  I believe in my tenure as a BOD member, I have actually only missed 2 WGA campouts or picnic events.  In looking back since becoming a member in 2004, I have only missed 3 campouts/picnic events overall – could it be?

At the BOD meeting, the dates for the various events are discussed and finalized as much as possible.  We already have the reservations in place for the Fall picnic.  I already have these dates on my calendar but will have 1 conflict this year.  I applied and have been selected to attend a #BTS Break the Silence Domestic Violence Survivor Retreat being held in San Diego the weekend of the 2017 campout.  With over 400 applications received, I was one of 48 selected based upon a series of phone interviews.  I will definitely be part of the planning process for the campout prior, and will have everything set and ready to go before I leave with the merchandise sales so it can be handled by another BOD member and perhaps volunteer at the event itself.  We will need to order more apparel soon based upon our current inventory that I have started the design work for and will handle the ordering, pick up, etc for.  I will have my personal Ipad set up for running the store and will hand it off so things can be run in my absence.  Following the event, I also will be wrapping up any reimbursements that follow as well.
