– Would people be more apt to buy a WI coin that was trackable than a travel bug, if they were comparable in price? I’m thinking the coin would be able to do everything the travel bug can, but look a whole lot better.
– Would the appearance cause people to collect the coins, even if attached to a stuffed animal or other item?
– Would Groundspeak add the WI coin to it’s list of salable items in order to help us offset the cost of 1500 trackable numbers?
– Does Groundspeak require payment for the trackable numbers in full before they give them out, or can the amount be paid as money is recieved for the coins?

07/07/2005 at 5:48 pm #1744375I agree with NurseDave. I dont think that trackable on gc is crictical. We would have to sell or buy alot of coins just to make the quota of 1500 I believe. As for a icon, yea you get a icon for that coin, but whoopty doo.. lol.
Now with that said, I think we could go ahead and number the coins, so if down the road someone from WGA makes some tracking software its allready in place, or is neet to see what coin you have in the circulation.

07/07/2005 at 11:40 pm #1744376A couple of points:
The coins will not be purchased by WGA or even WI residents only! There are people all over the country who buy these coins. I’ve had many emails from cachers looking for information about coins in the area. There is a lady in CA watching this thread right now and waiting to see what happens so she can email me to place an order. So when deciding about pricing, company to purchase from, GC.com info, etc. we need to keep these people in mind as well. Collectors are collectors! They could be the ones who make the difference in our ability to move the coins! As for design, there is such a variety of abilities within our community. I’m sure that there is someone out there who can design the coin (as in the WGA t-shirt contests) and save us the cost of artwork. I do hope though, that IF the WGA is going to sponsor this attempt, they allow the WGA voting members the chance to voice opinion about what design to choose! I hope it’s not something that is voted on by ONLY the WGA Board…not that I don’t value the opinions there, I just think that since these coins will be representing all of us in the state…well…you get the picture. My vote, WE ALL VOTE!!!

“Be safe and Keep on Searchin”07/15/2005 at 2:42 pm #1744378Here’s someone who might want to get involved…
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=10320107/15/2005 at 3:37 pm #1744379So where does this stand now?
Is someone working a design?
Are people just supposed to submit designs?
Are they going to be trackable?
Who is spearheading this?I looked over the post and this discussion dates back to 2002. I would hate this to become a dead subject and in two years resurface again. If this project is to go forward WGA must face the fact it will cost a lot of money upfront regardless of a coin having a number, in color, being pressed or casted. Oppss getting off subject… Anyhow I’ am interested and willing to provide my time into the matter. While I don’t consider myself as an expert, I have a pretty good background doing such projects for several years in the Navy.
PCFROG07/18/2005 at 6:05 pm #1744380Well, I can’t answer pcfrog’s questions. But as far as the design goes, I can bring my geocoin collection to the picnic so everyone can see what other states and organizations have done. I have about 20 different coins and there is a lot of variety. Let me know if anyone wants to see them.

I would love to.
Just not sure if I can make it to the picnic yet.
07/18/2005 at 10:42 pm #1744382Ok well I had the time, usually do, so I made 2 basic designs and have two variations of those. This would just be the side that distinguishes its state. The other side would be basic and contain the tracking number. I figure I put this out to get the ball rolling. I can provide more info for anyone who cares.

Awsome, awsome, awsome. Those are great! First and third get my vote. Thanks for taking that on. They look fantastic!07/19/2005 at 4:04 am #1744384Boy! If this is just the start of coin ideas, I think we’re on a good track! Don’t know exactly what is meant between textured and polished (I thought all coins are textured), but I really like the globe. pcfrog, you did great, but I always like to see some variety. I can’t wait to see what designs other people come up with. This has already exceeded any of my talents (which aren’t many).
And again, I vote for some kind of tracking. It puts the “geo” in geocoin.
07/19/2005 at 4:55 am #1744385Very classy – which is what I like. I’m glad you didn’t put color in it. It seems it doesn’t take much color before the coin starts to look a little cheezy. And even though we are in Wisconsin, I don’t want cheezy.

07/19/2005 at 4:48 pm #1744387I think it looks great! (Except the beer and brat are missing.)
07/19/2005 at 5:37 pm #1744388That looks awsome PC. If you want to see my coin collection, email me and we can meet somewhere. M&M Hunter can bring his collection along also. Just let me know.
