pcfrog,
How in the world do you do that? “That” being, how do you draw those coins? Do you freehand that?
It’s pretty darn cool.

08/03/2005 at 2:51 pm #1744405I have to second Mama Fishcacher’s opinion. Everything I’ve seen so far has been most impressive! And I have no clue how he does it either….
Hmmmm. I like the deer. I also think the wood violet would be a good state symbol to use as I seem to run across them frequently while goecaching. If you do want to use a little color, the purple of the flower would make a good contrast. But it might not be a *grand* enough image for some people’s tastes.

Don’t sell yourself short, Bec. You’ve always seemed pretty sharp to me!
08/03/2005 at 3:01 pm #1744407I’m good at taking pictures, graphics, and other visuals and manipulating them into what I want. I did not draw the deer itself only made a few changes to the ground to fit in the coin and modified the fur on the deer.
Take for instance the compass rose on the one side of the coin. I took that as a regular picture then broke it into 4 major parts: Lines, Base, Main points, Sub Points. By doing this, I was then able to apply different textures and gradients to produce the effect, which you see on the image. Editing that one object took 30-40 min. I spent far more time working this side of the coin for I imagine it in a 3d effect while other side more than likely be a 2d effect.
I only free hand items as a last resort since it very time consuming. If I were to draw a deer freehand, it would probably take me a week to do so. I lack the ability others have in art to be able to draft out a design that I would consider my final work. Therefore, I typically stick to bring things together.
I Spent 10 years in the Navy as a photographer/photojournalist and 5 years as a DOD civilian. I currently create online courses, which has me doing a wide variety of task such as minor programming, graphic work, audio work, video work, and about anything else that needs to be done to get a project completed. (Jack-Of-All-Trades master of none)
In short, I only draw a little as needed.
I’ll look at the wood Violet — just looking no promises.
08/03/2005 at 10:05 pm #1744408What about a badger? That’s very WI….and they’re so cute & cuddly!
I like the use of the motto (Forward)….it’s very positive, and in some way that I cannot express, sort of IS sort of geocaching in Wisconsin.

I tried a badger and could not tell the difference between it and a skunk.
I’m currently working on the robin and a wood violet on the coin. It probably take me a few days since I have to draw most of it. 🙁

08/16/2005 at 5:08 pm #1744415Ummmmmm…………
I don’t want a coin that says “Turdus Migratorius” on it.
Great job on the new drawing, but perhaps we should stick with English names?

Actually, if someone could photoshop the infamous hat onto it, I think we might have something there!

Well was trying something a little different and possibly get people to know the Latin name.
“Robin” just sounded so mundane.
