For non-members (those not logged in to the WGA site), this page would display information about the WGA and link to the form people can use to join.

Very awesome!!! Adding the ability for non-members to very easily see information about the group and making it very simple to join the group was one the things I mentioned on a related posting under the Suggestion box not too long ago. What a perfect fit seeing as most of our redirect traffic comes from these banners.

    Great ideas sir Jeremy.

I’m still fairly new to this. I don’t think I have a cache page, and if I do, I don’t know how to find it. And if I did, I wouldn’t know how to add the logo to it. I voted no opinion, though, because I don’t think I have a cache page.

Don’t know if anyone answered amita17’s question personally, but a cache page is what the write-up is for each individual cache. It’s where cache placers can write what they want about a cache they have placed for others to find, and they may place photos and links on this page in addition to any description. You have no doubt read lots of cache pages when you have looked up caches to find.

Use of the WGA logo requires that html code be used, and that takes some getting used to. We did it by trial and error, but there is lots of help here, and it wasn’t too hard to do. Adding the logo was the easy part because all the coding is right there (on the Wiki page) to copy and paste.

So, if you have placed a cache, you have written up a cache page. Some people have included the logo, some have not. Clicking on the link on the cache page sends people to the WGA site, where they will hopefully find what they like there. 🙂

Thanks, sandlanders. I have not placed any caches. I have some ideas, but I think I need to do a lot more searching, or rather, finding, before I try hiding. I don’t know a thing about html, so if I do place a cache, I suspect I won’t include the logo unless it is made very easy for me to do so.

We’ll all help you get the logo on your cache pages if you want it there.

You can write up a cache page and submit it, but make sure to uncheck the box that says it’s ready to be reviewed. Then you can go back to it many times to get it looking the way you want before your final submission. If including the logo screws it up and you can’t get it to do what you want, just ask.

Hmm-mmmm…We haven’t done a cache page in a while, so we might be a bit rusty. Guess we’d better get to work!

This will probably occur around the same time we switch out logos on the website and offer cache page banner images with the new logo. I’ve got to get at least some of this done work done before the Board meeting at the end of February (or the new Board will yell at me! :)) so watch for it then.

      The Past

      The Future

When we create new WGA banner images using the new logo, we plan to include two new features:

      – Dynamic images. You will be able to optionally select a banner graphic that will dynamically / periodically change (this change will be automatic; you won’t touch your cache page HTML). We will use this to “advertise” upcoming WGA events and important activities. Right now, it would probably have something about voting for the Board and Cache of the Year. Again, this will be optional… you will still have the ability to use simple banner images with just the WGA logo that will not change.

      – Dynamic WGA link. Instead of having the cache page banner images link to the WGA home page, the plan is to link to a special dynamic page. For non-members (those not logged in to the WGA site), this page would display information about the WGA and link to the form people can use to join. For members, we’d have a listing of important recent WGA news AND have information on how they can add a similar banner graphic to their own cache pages. For everyone, if the visitor clicked on one of our dynamic images “advertising” something, we’d also display information about that event or activity.

      Great plan!

okay, it took awhile to do but all my caches now have the logo/link.
I edited the “placed by” to “adopted and maintained by” on the caches I have adopted from others.

I have not used this on any of my caches.

I do not feel it generates any new ‘business’. Perhaps I might be wrong …….

Perhaps someone should poll new members, and find out if this was how they found the WGA.

I just added the WGA logo to my cache pages recently…now I see that there is a new one becoming available…wasn’t aware of how to place a banner, but I’m just starting to find some of this info on the website. I think it adds to the cache page. I don’t know how effective it is, but it can’t be a bad thing 😀

I can tell you this was how I found out about it!

Unfortunately the Wiki link for help spreading the word still has the cut and paste html cheat for the old logo

So right now if you want to add the logo and you are not html literate the only choice you have is the old logo. I thought this was going to be changed, months ago?

        #1901327

How about we just accept the old logo and never change it?

        #1901328

I never realized that this was important, but after reading the information and finding the link…. copying and pasting it is was super easy and I put the link on all my pages.

        #1901329

I finally decided to take it into my own hands for my own pages. Here is my link, with a link to my photobucket page for the new logo. fell free to use it.
