Just reading this thread now.
I started caching in April, and I definitely found out about WGA through a cache page. I signed up immediately, as I thought it was a great idea to bring people together in the state. I actually would love to see an organized effort at the regional level to. Maybe there already is, I don’t know.
I have only posted one cache as of now, and have the logo on the site. I will certainly use it on all of my pages.

I finally decided to take it into my own hands for my own pages. Here is my link, with a link to my photobucket page for the new logo. fell free to use it.
This cache placed

(click to visit our
website)I like it. I think i will try this on a new cache page soon.
08/01/2009 at 1:41 am #1901332you realize that you can just reference the logo from it’s current spot on the WGA web server right?
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk300/jeni2272/wgalogo_09.gif
can just as easily be
http://wi-geocaching.com/themes/WGA/images/wgalogo_09.gif
in your HTML. You don’t have to host a copy of the logo on “photobucket”
Hopefully our web admin(s) are aware that some members are referencing the new logo in this location on the wga server and will leave a copy of it there when they finally update the “official image” being referenced by the “official html”.

Yes I did, but I already had the logo there when I did my campout designs. And this way I know it will not disappear on me!
And how hard would it be for whomever does the update, to change the logos out for that one line of code? Not the whole site, just that one line of code. Then everyone could let this drop!
08/01/2009 at 3:26 am #1901334Well it’s not that simple. That one line of code lives on hundreds of cache pages. In all actuality what has to change is the actual image with the file name that’s currently in use by the “official code” to be the new logo image file not the old one.
Here’s to hoping the new logo file as it is today does not “disappear”.
08/01/2009 at 4:00 am #1901335But were they not phasing out the old anyway? Why not start with that one!
08/01/2009 at 11:46 am #1901336Don’t push the TPTB they are busy people and will get to it when they can, at least that is what I was told over a month ago. after all the crap that went on over the new logo, you would think that the “phase in” of the new logo would have been a bit faster. Maybe if we get a rainy weekend someone will have the time to rename the new logo the same as the old logo and get it on the server, I am not HTML friendly, but one would think that is all that would have to happen
08/20/2009 at 5:37 am #1901337Update on the status of the new logo implementation, since a handful of members are still concerned about this. Here is the full text of the motion that passed on 1/3/09:
“Whereas, after receiving 15 logo concept submissions from members and holding 2 referendums on the matter, Cheesehead Dave’s “WGA/state in block letters” logo concept received the most votes from members in the second round referendum.
Whereas, the Wisconsin Geocaching Association Board of Directors has had a commercial artist prepare a number of photo ready versions of that logo.
Whereas, option 14 is a well designed logo, attractive, based largely on Cheesehead Dave’s winning logo submission as requested, and modified to appear distinct from the Washington Geocaching Association’s logo
Therefore, be it moved that the WGA shall adopt this logo (Cheesehead Dave’s “WGA/state in block letters,” version 14) as the official logo for the Wisconsin Geocaching Association.
Be it further moved that the new logo will be phased in over a 1 year period, after which no uses of the previous logo should be made.”
Please note that from the beginning, it was our intention to phase in the new logo over a 12 month period, and that is what has been happening. Those who attended the event in West Bend (and those that will attend the Picnic at Lake Wissota September 19th) saw our new banners with the logo on them. Also, we were able to make new name tags at the event in West Bend with the new logo, which also will be available for the Lake Wissota Picnic.
All that is left in the phase in is the revision of the graphics on our home page and the “spread the word” link, both of which should be done prior to the 1/03/10 deadline that we gave ourselves.
I know this is a non-issue to most of our membership, but since a handful of people keep bringing it up, I thought it reasonable to give an update.
Thank you.

I think the confusion around this issue in this thread, which deals with use of the new logo, centers around differing timelines proposed for the auto-link to put the logo on cache pages. To wit:
From January 7:

It is expected that the new WGA logo will be fully incorporated into the WGA website in February along with a corresponding color scheme change and “freshening” of the user interface to match the new logo. For now, the new logo will be displayed alongside the current logo on the top of all web pages.
From January 31

[for the auto link in the wiki]
This will probably occur around the same time we switch out logos on the website and offer cache page banner images with the new logo. I’ve got to get at least some of this done work done before the Board meeting at the end of February (or the new Board will yell at me! :)) so watch for it then.
From February 19

No, it looks like the old one hasn’t been replaced yet. I used the address from the new logo anouncement, so it may NOT be permanent.
Since several people are using the following image of the new WGA logo on their cache pages / profile pages / personal web pages:
http://wi-geocaching.com/images/wgalogo_09_300.jpg
I will keep this image permanently on the server. But TBC is right, this is not the “official” banner image we recommend for use on cache pages (so it will not change automatically if the logo is tweaked in the future, etc.)… we will have that image uploaded and the new HTML posted shortly.
I think Jeremy does a great job with the site. I personally don’t care when the WGA makes the change to the link page because we currently don’t use the logo on our pages.
However, that second issue is what people on this thread are asking, and I can understand their confusion around this issue. Could both logos be provided in the wiki link?
I think it’s perfectly reasonable for people who are looking to actively promote the WGA to have an easy way of doing so, and I would think this would want to be encouraged, rather than dismissed with a drive-by posting.
Then again, if it truly is just a “non issue to most of our membership,” there’s little value to making the wiki link change at all I suppose.
On the Left Side of the Road...08/21/2009 at 1:46 am #1901340I agree with gotta run, and if according to the above other post that most of the work was done to the prior to the Feb board meeting how hard can it be to finish it?
I’m not bashing anyone or the WGA, but I would not be patting my self on the back for banners that took 8 months to appear. I’ll just wait till January to update my cache pages.

08/22/2009 at 2:52 pm #1901341Zuma,
I have to wonder why if there was a plan to change the logo over a 1 year period of time why is this the first time we are hearing of it? Besides other board members indicating the logo change would occur in a relative short period of time, where they aware of the one year plan. Or when I questioned it in a different forum and board member told to Shut the **** Up that perhaps they didnt know about the plan, or why nobody expressed the plan then.
But hey the logo isnt a issue for me any longer, I use the Utah Geocachers Association since that day, I no longer give any of my money (thru donations, coin sales or T-shirts) to the WGA, and as of 8/28 when my membership expires I wont even be a member any longer.
BTW there are other things, much more important that have caused this decision, but this is as good as spot as any to comment
Carry On & Bye
Dean08/22/2009 at 6:09 pm #1901342Seriously this is getting sad, and its not just being about the logo, now members are leaving because of comments of made by board members.
Why would any Board Member tell some one to Shut the **** up????
this is getting a bit out of hand, but this again renews my faith that there should be a Northern Wisconsin Geocachers Association. The WGA is mainly a Southern Wisconsin Organization and favors anything below the 44th parallel. Might have to start looking in to the legal aspects of starting a organization that encompasses northern Wisconsin and Part of the UP of Michigan

09/17/2009 at 1:34 am #1901343I have only 3 caches out so far, but I don’t know how to add the logo to the cache pages.

1. Click on Wiki, which is in the main menu, just to the left of here.
2. This will bring up another list of choices. Click on “Help Spread The Word” and follow the instructions there.
Thanks for doing this, as it is helpful in letting folks know about the WGA.
