Last year at the cache bash the WGA was making the laminated name tags. The line was long and I had caches to find, so I didn’t wait, my bad. This year I was looking around and couldn’t find anyone making them. One WGA member told me it was to expensive and they are not making them anymore.
Is there a way to get one? Can’t cost that much? I would donate what was needed. I think the laminated name tag would be great for events.
🙄 🙄 😀
08/15/2011 at 4:32 pm #1951691Great Idea. We talked about this too at the Bash.
What would it take to do this again? I too would donate or at least post a .pdf of the template so new ones could be made at home?
Following the signals from space.

Yeah this would be a way less expense for the WGA if we could just do it ourselves I know I need 3 of them
08/15/2011 at 5:00 pm #1951693Was it a cost thing, or a time thing? If it is a cost thing, then the answer is simple … sell them instead of giving them away. I don’t know what they cost, but I can’t imagine that there’s more than a buck or two in one. Sell them at cost, or there abouts. I’d pay a dollar or two … if I hadn’t already gotten one for free 😆
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
08/15/2011 at 5:26 pm #1951694I keep mine in my car, becasue it has the ROT-13 chart on the back, I use that alot when i look up a cache on my phone

I agree, that is what I’m looking for. Who do I email?
08/15/2011 at 6:56 pm #1951696I suspect they will be made available at the picnic. Stay tuned.
08/15/2011 at 7:35 pm #1951697The nametags at the Cache Bash were offered 2 years ago and discontinued due to how labor intensive the project was.
Yes, attend a WGA event and pre-sign up .. name tags are offered there ..

Volunteers. We would need more volunteers than we got for the whole weekend outside of the pancake breakfast. If we only made them on Saturday, we would need nine to twelve volunteers. More if we do it on Friday also… Why so many? Someone needs to take names. Someone enters names and when there is enough names for a full sheet, prints the labels. Someone laminates. Someone sorts and distributes them to cachers when they come back for their nametag. Three four hours shifts on Saturday X three to four volunteers per shift. A couple of alternates because of no-shows… I think the point is becoming clear.
How many labels and holders to we buy? 500? 1000? 1500? That could turn into a costly miscalculation.
We would need someone to loan a computer. I am personally very happy that I didn’t have my computer equipment at the event this year. I would probably be buying a new computer today… Even under the pavillion, everything got soaked.
If anyone still feels strongly about having the WGA print nametags for the West Bend event (which, remember, is NOT a WGA event), please join the committee next year and work out all of the issues.
10/16/2011 at 2:32 pm #1951699A little historical perspective:
In the beginning…. We printed adhesive name tags. You peel them off and stick them on your shirt. We were finding them all over the park after an event. Worst part, they had WGA printed on them, so everyone would know who created all the trash.
Next we tried the reusable clear plastic name tag holders. We printed WGA blanks, and people could then fill in their name. After the first attempt, we discovered we had to tape the ends so the paper blanks don’t fall out. These were quite expensive, and a low percentage of people turned them back in at the end of the event. That meant we had to keep buying more.
Then I started the laminated tags. We made tags for everyone who signed up for an event and laminated them. The hope was that once everyone had a name tag, we would have to make less and less tags each year. The cost per tag was over $1.00 each, and were very labor intensive. It would take hours to laminate them all. After an event, we would have large numbers of left over tags from people who signed up but didn’t attend.
As time progressed, the electronic sign up registration process was developed. There were fields to fill if you needed a name tag. Funny thing is, people kept signing up for new name tags for each event, even though they had already been issued name tags. Again, we were not seeing a cost savings.
The name tags are a labor intensive process, and that is for an event with 200 people. Now imagine providing them for a mega event. You would need several people dedicated to this task.
The WGA has lost a lot of money on name tags in the past, from people who kept asking for multiples, or never picked them up.
I personally feel there should be an nominal charge if you want a name tag.
10/16/2011 at 5:38 pm #1951700Seems like it is part of the WGA’s self-proclaimed goal to “spread the word” about the organization, and what a great place – along the trails at the Cache ba$h – for advertising!
WGA name tags at WGA events sell teams and teamwork. That’s a good thing, and promotes and sustains continued involvement.
WGA name tags at Cashe ba$h would sell the WGA to prospective members. Additionally, one might think that ‘trail advertising’ would be at least as effective as the booth.
Just a thought.
10/16/2011 at 7:24 pm #1951701Of course one of the goals of any organization is to grow its membership, and I agree that having a WGA presence at a mega event is a good way to get the word out. I’ve been to two Cache Bashes. but I spent most of my time out on the trails, so I can’t really judge the effectiveness of the booth at Regner Park. I don’t think that nametags are an effective means of promoting out on the trails, though. Personally, I would not wear one. I did wear mine most of the time that I was at Regner, but took it off when I went out caching. Something dangling from my shirt would just be a distraction and would probably end up getting lost.
I do think that it would be a good idea to encourage WGA members to wear WGA hats, shirts, etc. while out on the trail to promote the organization.

10/16/2011 at 8:00 pm #1951702Good point. Too bad they couldn’t give away gobs of WGA hats instead of gun locks……… 🙂
