I think both pictures are ok – neither picture showed the hiding spot, and neither cache container was unique nor had special camouflage. My gps should get me to the pile of rocks or into the woods and the pictures aren’t showing any more than that.
08/22/2006 at 5:06 pm #1764752Sadly, this is not a new issue. We’ve done some fabulous caches which had photos posted showing a bit “too much” in them. We’ve also hidden caches having the same problem.
We like to look at photos on cache pages so that we can see who’s doing the caches. A lot of times we don’t know the names of those who have gone before us. If they post photos we look to see if we recognize them. We don’t look at the photos for hints or clues or give-aways, as has been suggested by another poster here.
We too have been known to send the gentle mailing to the cache seeker asking them to remove or edit their photos. We’ve never had anyone argue about what we’ve asked. Like someone else said, they were usually just excited about finding the hide and didn’t think about it. We’ve also had to ask that hide details be removed from cache logs.
Send the mail Dave!

Ok let’s make this simple, here are two photos I have taken in the past and posted with my log.
Photo A

Photo B
These both show the “Area” and both have the cache in them. But both do not show where it was actually hidden.
Are these acceptable – YES / NO and why?
08/22/2006 at 5:54 pm #1764754Absolutely okay, and nice family pics to boot. Now if it was a fake electrical box cache, and you have your finger in it and you’re not dead, that would be verboten. Kind’ve a common sense type thing. Unless it’s something super-sneaky, and the hide isn’t compromised, bring on the trophy shots 8) !

I couldn’t find it now but I recently saw a log a picture of the cache obviously in its hiding spot. That in my opinion is not acceptable. However your point on it stating that there may be spoilers in the logs is understood.
But when reading logs to see if the cache is worth the trip if you have limited time in an area and want to see the best in the area. A good hide could be ruined.
