    Candidates,

Some of you have served and others have not.  What can you bring to the BOD?  Skills? Contacts? Ideas?  Critical thinking?

I think that I can bring enthusiasm to the party.  I love geocaching and I love geocachers.  I very much enjoy playing the game and going out and finding geocaches.  I find that being out in nature is good for the soul and makes me a happier person.  But despite this, I am not a “numbers” geocacher and have no problem spending my time at events helping instead of spending the whole time geocaching.  I think I am friendly and enjoy being helpful and enjoy planning events and carrying them out.  I think another strength of mine is my ability to get along with many and help people work through issues that may arise between geocachers, park staff, etc.

I can bring unconventional thinking. I can think outside the box. Example, a ftf puzzle that I found was credited the location due to another cacher giving the spot to them. I had an old pocket querry that had that old cache on it. I plugged it into the geochecker and got a green light.

In answering this question, the key piece is to look at the responsibilities of a BOD member as spelled out in the by-laws.  A strong WGA takes BOD members who can be leaders who actively participate.

aI have presented sessions and a pre-conference workshop at the Wisconsin Park and Recreation Conference and a Park Section workshop

aI have organized, planned and led several CITO events with the City of Waukesha Parks.

aI have worked with Waukesha County Parks as they developed their geocaching policy

aI created and present the Geo101 workshop on a regular basis for non-geocachers.  I have held events specific for new cachers to having Geo101 presentations as part of larger events.

aI have organized, planned and led geocaching events.  My All A Glow Night Geocaching events in Greenfield drew attendance between 100-175 people.  11 years running, I have worked with the City of Waukesha with their citywide event to include Geocaching and Geo101.

I like to think the skills I can bring to the WGA are my enthusiasm. I’ve been caching almost 10 years and when you are excited about something, wanting to share it with others comes easily.
When I volunteer for something, I am full in and devoted to putting in time and effort to make it successful. I like seeing you all come to the events and have a good time, that makes all the planning and worrying worth it.

Before I was elected to the BOD, I had  offered my time running the WGA’s Facebook page and hosted/cohosted two or three of the Lonely Cache Game events in Horicon.

Since joining the Board, I have continued to run the WGA’s Facebook page, set up a good working relationship with the WDNR in setting up the State Park cache series and worked with the WGASP series Trail Bosses with whatever their needs to help assure the series was successful. I’ve helped plan the WGA events, searching out volunteers for events,  and when contacted by outside agencies, I’ve provided them assistance as needed. We often receive calls from community groups looking for assistance in putting on geocaching related activities and I help direct them to members interested in helping. The WGA Member Map is a big help with this. The WGA has a CITO along Highway 10  two times a year and I have helped run those.

I have a few ideas of my own that the WGA may be able to use in the future to keep the association growing and moving the sport forward but what I think I offer is the realization I don’t have all the answers but our members do. It is up my me/us to come to you all and ask for help and input.

I think I can bring new ideas to the board. Some of my skills is working with people such as the DNR like I did with Pike lake state park and Kettle Moraine State Park. Working with them on the caches in the park and brining more people into the sport/hobby we all love. I have some ideas like making patches for the WGA that people can wear proudly and use as swag, and for other states groups to model after us. Use the WGA as a platform for other groups to learn and grow.

I continue to hone my geocaching skills. Geocaching means a whole of different things based upon what it means to you and what you like about it. Geocaching envelops so much(like being part of a large organization or group) and so little (just heading out to grab a cache every once and a while). After hosting 6 events and placing 550 geocaches in 2014  you  get a lot of feedback from geocachers. With my eagerness to adapt and willingness to learn, I continue to modify how I play the game to further the enjoyment others get from the game.

I bring a lot of enthusaism to the party.  Geocaching is a fun hobby/sport and I talk about it all the time and encourage others to try it.  I am always willing to help a fellow cacher, whether they need help with a hint or their gps or even GSAK.  I may not be the most educated about the different technology devices but will try to figure out and help to the best of my ability.  I learn many new things by trying to help others solve their issues.
