With GC having a birthday and the WGA coming up on a big one, I hit the wayback machine to see what the number of caches were on the day I joined GC.com

Mine was: There are 173985 active caches in 214 countries.
In the last 7 days, there have been 115366 new logs written by 21112 account holders.

I used http://archive.org/web/web.php to get there.

As close as we could get to our Dec 25, 2006 start date:
There are 341174 active caches worldwide.
In the last 7 days, there have been 149534 new logs written by 24556 account holders.

Today:
There are 1,878,047 active geocaches and over 5 million geocachers worldwide.

Per the ‘Wayback’ site, about a month after we signed up:

“As of today, there are 76,101 active caches in 190 countries.
In the last 7 days, there have been 37,016 new logs written by 8839 account holders.”

Wow, have things changed, eh?

There are 323176 active caches in 222 countries.
In the last 7 days, there have been 215503 new logs written by 34325 account holders.

From when we signed up for a GC account on September 1, 2007 (and I started lurking):

*** There are 451180 active caches worldwide.
*** In the last 7 days, there have been 323307 new logs written by 46317 account holders.

From the day we found our first cache and wrote our first log on October 17, 2007:

*** In the last 7 days, there have been 305727 new logs written by 45041 account holders.

I remember when GC clicked over to 500,000 caches not long after we started geocaching.
Averith, it looks like you are one geoyear older than we are!

I’m pretty close to WA on dates but what I saw was the difference in the site! I favor the one then for navigation but enjoy a couple of features now

It was there for me too…click on the ABOUT GEOCACHING tab. The stats are towards the top.
