My Pittsburgh friend sent these to me and said they are conected to Easter somehow… He never tells me how. Can you help?

Interesting …. there must be some explanation to all these stone statutes. You guys are the pros … Let us know OK? Anyone been there?
.
Never been there but it’s on my list.
I believe it was named Easter Island because it was discovered on Easter. The poor soles that built those statues condemned themselves by using up all the wood on the island to move them. Once the statues were mostly completed, they had to leave they’re beloved homeland for lack of firewood, shade and building materials.
Wonder where/who their ancestors are?

This may provide a little information. The earliest settlers of Easter Island were Polynesian followers of wind and wave. Something like this.

This is a Rapanui Canoe … Over 1500 years ago navigator Hotu Msatua led a band of explorer colonists across 2 thousand miles of landless seas. They named the new home.. Te Pito O Te Henua.. The Navel of the World. The population soared to 10,000 people. But something went terribly wrong. The population crashed to less than 2,000. It’s forests and wildlife–gone.
