I just counted how many puzzle caches that there are within 5 miles of my home coords. I counted 55. What the heck is going on around here? Can’t anyone just place one and let folks find them? Is it an epidemic of out puzzling the other cachers?
I think my head is smoking right now from all the thinking that I have had to do lately.
10/01/2007 at 1:09 am #1879517There are lots of (okay not lots but many) traditional and multis out this way.

10/01/2007 at 1:24 am #1879518I might have to road trip and give the brain a break
10/01/2007 at 1:34 am #1879519Hemi,
About an hour ago I did a search of your area and was wondering the exact same thing. On a couple of the pages of caches I brought up the only caches I hadnt found were puzzles…..10/01/2007 at 2:00 am #1879520Yup, there’s lots. Many of them worthy of their hides though.

10/01/2007 at 11:55 am #1879522I’ve asked Seldom | Seen to take a long, long, long vacation…. but he’s too busy putting out puzzle caches.
10/01/2007 at 12:17 pm #1879523BTW, are you counting only UNsolved puzzles?
10/01/2007 at 12:44 pm #1879524Personally, I have about 4 solved out your way which I haven’t yet looked for or have looked for and not found….Having that many puzzles in an area just seems to be (sorry to say this) wasteful. There are a great many cachers who lack the ability or desire to solve these, and then the puzzle caches take up locations so that regular caches cannot be placed there. Granted, in the Appleton area there are still hundreds of non-puzzles to go after and it would take months to find all of those….
10/01/2007 at 5:23 pm #1879525Gary, there is lots of room in Appleton yet, for lots of caches.
The puzzles may occassionally take up a ‘good spot’, but ………..
Having had a couple of puzzle events up here has helped increase dramatically the number of cachers who now do puzzles.
Stay tuned Milwaukee area – you are next on the 21st!
10/01/2007 at 5:30 pm #1879526Yep I agree. There is LOTS of room up by you. I’m just spitballin’ and mean no disrespect. If anything I wish I had more patience to solve some of the puzzles up there…but as you and I both know there are so many other caches up there I really don’t HAVE to solve the puzzles to go caching and still come away with a basket-full.
I see that you have a Puzzle event on the 21st in Greenfield if I recall correctly….I have come so close to signing up for that one but the puzzler in me really likes to get it on my own or not at all….that said I hope your class gets a few more people to hit some of my puzzle caches. 😈
10/01/2007 at 5:59 pm #1879527I have to say–we love the puzzle caches–it’s a happy medium for us. I get the joy out of solving the puzzles and typically it’s my husband who finds the cache container. So it’s a win-win.
I have to say though, we spent a weekend earlier this summer in the Fox Cities area, and armed with a handful of puzzles I had painstakingly solved, we were more frustrated that they were difficult to find. Since my brain was (proudly) spinning from actually figuring out the coords, it’s tough when you have to walk away with the DNF.
Thank goodness there are so many caches in the area, because we salvaged our trip by finding a handful of traditionals. But, I didn’t solve all those puzzles for naught, so we’ll be back. Keep ’em coming!
10/01/2007 at 6:05 pm #1879528Hey, the puzzle event will not give out answeers to puzzles!
It will provide ideas and stratigies on how to solve them…….
And one idea, if you head to Appleton to look for the puzzles you have solved, contact a local cacher – like me – to go along and make sure you find it!
10/01/2007 at 9:56 pm #1879529This is the main reason I don’t bother caching in the Appleton area anymore. I want the enjoyment of finding a cache without having to waste time that I don’t even have to figure out some puzzle just to get coordinates. I have enough in real life to deal with that requires brain power. Caching shouldn’t be one of them.
By the sounds of things, it will be interesting to see if my ignore list will be get maxed out before I quit caching.

This was all the puzzles. However the unsolved ones are not far behind.
