I did a search and didn’t find anything about a site I ran across this morning: Terracaching.com
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thank you in advance for your comments.

12/27/2005 at 5:51 pm #1741075I found out that there are 2 caches within 100 miles of my house and that if I dont seek one of them or place one the people who sponcered my membership withdraw my membership just as fast.

There are a good number of geocachers who would like to see the sport take a step back in order to maintain a sense of quality vs. quantity. They see the issues that have risen due to the extreme growth rate of the sport and the saturation of caches that came along with it.
It’s a great concept that unfortunately wasn’t adopted where it counts and might have simply came along all too late.
01/03/2006 at 2:04 pm #1741077i joined terracaching awhile back but never found any caches because i would have had to drive 100+ mile round trip just to find one.
also i have a big issue with the sponsorship that is required to be a member. you have to get two sponsors before you can search for caches in your area. more than once now i have had someone revoke my sponsorship because i havn’t been active.(even as little as a month) what really sucks if i don’t have two sponsors, the people i have sponsored get pulled too.(apologise to the wisconsin cachers i sponsored that fell victim this way)when i said that the reason i wasn’t active was because there were no caches in my area i was told to go out and place some.
so in short by design terracaching will fail, they made it more of a social thing requiring friends to be involved in the sport. the basic idea behind it is great, only quality caches, with a voting system. oh ya and they have virtual and locationless caches, for the people who like those.
01/05/2006 at 9:19 pm #1741078Thank you all for your responses. I am learning. I agree the concept is good in that there are more quality caches (allegedly – fewer urban micros). The problem is that there are NO caches in SO MANY areas that it will be difficult to get an area up and running. I also registered on Navicache many years ago and have YET to hear about, or see in the logs of my caches, that someone found them from that site.
I have come to the point of searching areas rather than the actual cache containers. I truely enjoy the new areas I have been guided to through the various caches. I have not spent much time searching the caches themselves (unless the kids are in the mood to hunt). I guess I have become more of “lurker”. A lurker on GC I shall remain.
