Of all the things mentioned above, I have only found batteries and pencil sharpeners. And that was just a handful of times. I guess I have a bit more caching to do.
05/27/2009 at 5:30 am #1908412I have found a few live shotgun shells. Not sure if they were left by hunters who found the caches or not.
05/27/2009 at 1:17 pm #1908413Ok, here’s the list. Since people only scan things, if they read them at all, the idea is to highlight the attributes to get people thinking along those lines. I will admit it took us a maintenance trip to one of our own caches to realize…bubbles freeze! 😳
DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING ON THIS LIST IN THIS CACHE!
We appreciate that you’ve brought items to trade, but these things do not make good items to leave in a cache.
Things that smell (animals love them), such as:
- Candles
Soap
Incense
Perfume
Lip glossThings that get mushy, such as:
- Soap
Play-Doh
Silly PuttyThings that freeze, such as:
- Bubbles
Hand sanitizer
Other liquidsGlass or ceramics (they break)
Food, candy, or gum
Any personal products, such as:
- Toothbrushes
Deodorant
Combs (note: sorry Team Bald)
Kleenex
Hygiene ProductsBatteries (they don’t last)
Things that rust, such as:
- Pencil sharpeners
Other metalSharp things , such as:
- Saw blades
Knives
Can openersKeeping these things out of a cache will help keep this cache fun for all to find. Thank you!
On the Left Side of the Road...05/27/2009 at 1:50 pm #1908414LOL…there are only three items on the list I haven’t found in a cache….
:Perfume, deodorant and a saw blade.05/27/2009 at 1:57 pm #1908415Dog biscuit, chewing gum, and, yes, soy sauce.
05/27/2009 at 3:03 pm #1908416How about a pencil? When used with the evil sharpener it can stab a hand when placed into a cache.
05/27/2009 at 3:48 pm #1908417were they soy sauce packets from chinese takeout? Those probably last forever..
05/27/2009 at 4:02 pm #1908418One more: memory sticks, thumb drives, and homemade CDs/DVDs. No smart person is going to stick something they find in a cache in their computer (too much risk of viruses and other similar issues), so they just lie there until they are worthless. Of course, homemade music CDs would be ok, except they are defacto copyright violations.
05/27/2009 at 4:02 pm #1908419You’re thinking of Twinkies.
On the Left Side of the Road...05/27/2009 at 5:39 pm #1908420Take 2…
Ok, prompted by Hemi’s (albeit sarcastic) remark, I rethought the list. The purpose I intend is just to keep caches from being wrecked either by the swag itself (melting, etc.) or by something trying to get to the swag (animal). Anyone in the Green Bay area knows that soap and candles are trademark swag for a team here, and I’ve had to replace a few containers as a result.
The things I’ve left off the list are probably not good things to put in the cache, but since they don’t damage the cache, it’s a matter of preference, or they can be CITOed if there is a problem.
So here is V2:
DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING ON THIS LIST IN THIS CACHE!
We appreciate that you’ve brought items to trade, but these things do not make good items to leave in a cache because they can cause the cache itself to become damaged.
Things that smell (animals tear apart the cache to find them), such as:
Candles
Soap
Incense
Perfume
Lip gloss
Hygiene ProductsThings that get mushy, such as:
Soap
Play-Doh
Silly PuttyThings that freeze or leak, such as:
Bubbles
Hand sanitizer
Other liquids
BatteriesFood, candy, or gum (animals again)
Keeping these things out of a cache will help keep this cache intact and fun for all to find. Thank you!

➡ (if you are a cacher, do you have time to golf?)i manage to split my time evenly… i like it when people leave my brand of golf ball in a cache, i automatically make the trade then. haven’t bought a golf ball in 18 years 8)
