My first car was really an old used ’65 flat front Ford Econoline, equiped with retread tires, shag carpeting on the floor, paneling on the walls inside, a sun decal on the side, a keep on truckin’ liscense plate, and eventually painted (ironically enough) competition yellow. I convinced my father I needed the van for my last semester of college to drive to my student teaching gig, but in reality, it was a rolling party vehicle. Those were the days…

My first car was a 1972 Chevy Vega 2300, 2 speed automatic on the floor, green and rust, air conditioning (rust hole in the floorboard that let air in while you drove it), hatchback that opened maybe twice in the several years I had the car, passenger door that opened on its own while turning even though the door was locked, and it burned enough oil while at highway speed to make a James Bond smokescreen look lame, such memories reading all the first car stories on here. My current car is a 2003 Vibe and has been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned, already up to 167,000 in 6 yrs without major problems.

I can’t believe it! No one had a first car like mine. My first car was a 1965 Corvair… I loved it!! Ran great. And, to this day I still dislike Ralph Nader!

My first was a 1971 Chevy Impala that I lovingly called “Das Boot”. Ah, remember those days when you could tap (or be tapped) another car and you would only scuff the bumpers and wouldn’t total out both cars??

A 1948 Plymouth Club Coupe. Loved the speedometer. The colors changed from green to yellow to red as the speed increased

    Ah cars…a lovely topic 😀
First one was a 1989 Chevy Corsica Hatchback
Second was a 1988 Chrysler LeBaron
Third was 1988 Mustang LX convertible
Fourth was a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville SLE
Fifth (and current) is a 1972 Mustang Coupe (straight six and a three speed)

And if you want to count them, my gf’s cars (which I drive fairly often):
    2001 Grand Prix SE
    2006 MINI Cooper S

I’m just glad to see so many stangs listed!

My first car was a 1991 Red Ford Probe with who knows how many miles where on it the odometer didn’t work and after a couple of years neither did the heat and air. Yes, I was one of those people driving down the road and scrapping the inside of the windshield at stop signs.

Tims was 1966 “Pumpkin Red” (not just red) Plymoth Belvedere. It was his baby, he’s still sad he wasn’t able to keep it. And I’m sad he got rid of it before we met.
