You know the rest of the story. I am pleased that the area PD had the good sense to NOT immediately call in the bomb squad. I think the boys in blue are starting to catch on.
I know this topic’s been covered ad nausseum and I’m not trying to start it up again. What I did want to was relate to you is what the officer related to me when I picked up my can.
This one was marked a little differently to go with the theme of the sponsored cache and had a “CAUTION” label on top of it.
I asked if it would have made any difference in the SOP of handling this type of call if there had been a “Geocaching” sticker on the can (it was written in blue in the back) and she said no, except that it might have made her feel a bit more at ease when she cracked it open. No matter what it was labeled, it would have been removed since it was causing some concern for residents.
I told her she was lucky. She could have had the misfortune of opening it to the smell of stale urine!
