Understanding that it difficult to set dates when locations have probably not yet been determined, could we get a “likely” date? Second week of May again?
My work requires all “regular” vacation time to be scheduled at the beginning of the year. If the location is as great as last year’s campout, I might not go back to work- ever.
I’ve been told that it’s probably the 2nd or 3rd weekend in May. Just take off those 2 weeks, just to be safe! [:lol]

We started the planning a couple weeks ago. We will probably have it around the same time as this last campout, perhaps the weekend before memorial day.
We are open to suggestions for the location. The main NEED is the availibility of large group campsites. There are few parks that suite out needs. Also, we like to move it around to different areas of the state so more people are included. Realistically, we need to have it in a park that within driving distance to the greatest amount of members.
Feel free to give us your suggestions for a particular park. Remember, It must have large group sites!

Mr. and Mrs. Rubeeslpr hope it will be in a location where we can find a nearby place to “Trudy camp” at a local motel!
How about Lake Wissota. I have never been to Eau Claire so the area would be new to me. With so many caches in the area, I could take a week off from work to find all of the presidents. Also, it is close to the city for all those Trudy campers.

As I started looking a bit more, that one popped into my mind as well. I’ve been there and it is truly a beautiful park. And certainly big enough!Make that two votes for Lake Wissota.

Co-conspirators to make the world a better place…It’s been years, but I have camped at Lake Wissota, and I remember it being beautiful! I’ll go anywhere for the campout (I have no life!) as long as I know when it is so I can tell work not to schedule me that weekend (says the girl who has been working all this weekend, preparing a presentation on Sarbanes Oxley and studying for a test — and screwing around on the internet!!)

My friend’s dad works there during the summer and I am pretty sure that that park does not allow Geocaching in any way shape or form from what he has told me.
It would be a great place if they would allow the caches to be there for just a few days.
If anyone is interested I can get a name and contact number for that park if that’s where the masses decide to go.

If you recommend a campground, be sure to first check the DNR website to make sure there are indeed GROUP sites, and we can get 100-150 people on them. Not all campgrounds have group sites. When you post your suggestion, also indicate how many group sites the park has, and how many people are allowed on each one.
According to this page we should have plenty of room on 2 campsites accomodating 80-100 cachers each at Lake Wissota State Park.
There are also 2 reservable shelters nearby for the Saturday daytime activities and another shelter near the group sites that would serve our purposes quite well (cough)pancake (cough)(cough) breakfast (cough)(ahem).

I have not been through Lake Wissota for many years, but I do remember it as being a great park. If also fulfils my camping/kayaking/fishing/boating requirement.

I have spent many days playing around Lake Wissota, but never actually camped there. It’s beautiful and my family would be tickled as they are all in Eau Claire. If they will allow some temp caches, it has my vote as well!

Before we all get carried away with what might be the coolest place to camp, we need to consider a couple of practical aspects of planning the event.
1. How far [long] are you willing to drive with 1, 2 or three tots in the back seat crying and begging “are we there yet?”
2. Our volunteers have been coming from SE Wisconsin, how many will be willing to drive, how far, two or three times before the event to get it setup? Yes volunteers! they don’t get reimbursed for gas or time.
3. How many newbies are going to be willing to drive 5-6 hours to camp out with a bunch of people they havn’t even met? I’d bet that if we hold the campout in Ashland or Superior or even in Eau Claire, we wouldn’t need to worry about finding a campsite to accomadate more than 75 people.
Trudy & the beast will be there, no matter where in the state it is held. Until now, we haven’t been able to contribute during the set-up. This is something we would like to do, but if it is any further away than Mirror lake or Hartman Creek we will not be able to.
I only make these points because 85+ percent of our membership lives within a area between Kenosha, Madison and Green Bay. Our best service to the greatest numbers would be to go to Bong or to Kettle Moraine south. But we have consistently stayed to the left margin of this area to accomodate WGA members in the more sparcely populated parts of the state. There is nothing wrong with this other than it is impractical and if we stretch the practice any further it might prove to be self-defeating.
