Events – members have been expecting either coordinates in advance or downloads as they sign in. It would really be great to have technical assistance with that.
Parks & Recreation Depts – a place to start would be an educational push through our Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association.

We’ve already given a presentation to the WPRA, courtesy of kbraband. Was a great opportunity indeed
02/05/2006 at 10:32 pm #1760906Auntinae is aware of my WPRA presentation because she was in the audience. She’s probably suggesting continuing our efforts with that organization. Right?
Here’s another outreach we did with the WPRA — a guest article in their magazine. Geocachers can print thes two page as a handout for municipal and park officials: http://www.rocketink.com/WPRAarticlepage1.jpg http://www.rocketink.com/WPRAarticlepage2.jpg
And of course, there’s the PowerPoint for parks managers:

02/06/2006 at 1:11 pm #1760909I think it would be nice if there was a kit that could be made up that was checked out by members. Such a kit would contain 4-5 GPSr units, a banner, extra manuals for the GPSr units, and possible some type of swag (sticker, business card or alike for those who attend these training events).
This Kit can get very expensive fast (approximate cost)
4 GPSr – $360
1 case – $50
Some type of promotional swag – $5-15Things that I can think of off the top of my head. By no means I ‘m setting rules here just thoughts I had and tossing out for suggestion and ideas of what needs to be considered.
Check out – 1 person would be basically keeper of the Kit. This person would maintain all items in the Kit and would check it out to others. Once Kit is returned it would be checked by this person* (this important part here). People would have to sign up via web form and such info should be displayed on the WGA.com for others to use to plan when they could check it out. Time for check out should not exceed two weeks. That’s more than enough time for delivery to and from in this state and have time to hold an event. Failure to do this can result in loss of privilege to check out the Kit for a set period of YEARS. If person can not meet such guidelines due to lack of time then they should not be using the Kit.
How to get it to others – if someone could not pick the Kit up in person the Kit could be mailed to the person** and the kit could be mailed back.
A pelican case could be purchased to contain the items and also be used for the shipment. These would eliminate need for packing material. For an example of a pelican case click here.
There far more that rambles through my head but I think you get the point. I might sound harsh when it comes to restrictions but consider this. Two events that are 2 weeks apart and you’re the second event. The person who checked out the Kit failed to mail the kit back within 1-2 days after their event. Now you are no longer able to get the kit yourself.
Anyhow that’s what I think…

* This is where a liability statement would have to be singed and have actual legal bearing. The person who checks it out assumes complete liability for the Kit and all its contents. If a GPSr unit(s) were returned non functional that person would be responsible for the replacement cost. I say again replacement cost, not the estimated value of item based upon when it purchased.
** Shipment would be made via UPS insured to value or USPS certified with insurance.
02/06/2006 at 10:31 pm #1760910Yes, I was at the WPRA presentation and it did a good job at increasing awareness on the state level.
It might be time to think of going to the 4 regional groups of WPRA that meet typically monthly. If you divide the state into 4 parts these groups are: PARPRO, NEWPRO, PARR3 and SEPRC.
