Having a slow Saturday night (with dim memories of when it was otherwise
) I did some data crunching (hereafter called analysis) on the WGA membership list. The map below shows the distribution of the registered membership by zip code. The number indicates the number of members from that zipcode.

Thanks for sharing your time and talents. Cool map! Funny how when we’re busy we wish for quiet time and when things slow down we miss those things which kept us busy.
Not sure if you have any kids…but Happy Fathers’ Day in honor of the nurturing and teaching you share with us.

06/20/2004 at 11:37 pm #1747122Jeff – You are truly my hero. Good stuff and interesting data. For those of us who are visual learners (I think most geocachers are) this is a handy display and will probably aid the board in planning future gatherings!
Glad to see Green Bay has a healthy base!
06/21/2004 at 4:12 am #1747123That is neat Jeff! Thanks!
06/21/2004 at 5:05 am #1747124Oooh! I think I can almost see my house!
Pretty neat map.
06/21/2004 at 10:16 am #1747125Too Cool!
Now we know where all the action is!
Thanks Jeff.
06/21/2004 at 1:31 pm #1747126Neat map! I especially like seeing the rivers and lakes on it. It looks really cool!

There are some lonely souls up north.

06/21/2004 at 9:02 pm #1747128Nice map, Jeff. Now your next assignment is to plot the geographic center of the WGA population. After you do so we will hold all future events at that exact spot so no one can complain that we’re neglecting any segment of the geocaching population when we choose locations for our events.
06/21/2004 at 9:54 pm #1747129LOL!!!!! Agreed Ken…. I hinted at that in my reply but I’m glad someone came out and said it….
06/22/2004 at 12:01 am #1747130Guilty as Charged- I don’t complain, I comment.
I find it most interesting that my most memorable caching trips were in areas that there are no cachers.
06/22/2004 at 12:20 am #1747131Cathunter – I’ll agree with that!
Some of the late fall caching Amy and I did up in Door County last year was heaven. No one around – the Peninsula was empty!
06/22/2004 at 12:29 am #1747132LOVE THE MAP. [ ] can you make it so we can zoom in, and can someone put that on a web page like house of brew has? I’ll have to get some cachers i know to sign up on wga. i didn’t really know about wga until dcexploere told me about it. i introduced him to geocaching and had been doing it for a while by then.
06/22/2004 at 1:17 am #1747133Updated map:
Shows WI center of population.
Shows WGA center of population.
Shows locations of recent Picnics and Campouts.

I tried to fudge the numbers to make Ken’s house the COP so he could host the events but I am suffering a flash of integrity. It’ll soon pass.
