11/24/2008 at 10:29 pm #1898150Just saw that a Nuvi 200 will be available at Wal-Mart on November 28 for $97 as part of their early bird special (5am until supplies are gone).

11/24/2008 at 10:55 pm #1898151ok… Nuvi 200 for $97 or 200w for $138?

The Nuvi units are great … but I would not consider them rugged enough (or water resistant) … I would never consider taking my Nuvi in the woods.
Didn’t think I ever would either, until I got to the parking lot for the cache and my handheld was dead. It was a bit awkward but I did find both caches with it.

The Newer Nuvi 500 and 550 are waterproof.
The 500 comes pre-loaded with the entire US of Topo maps and City navigator maps for 48states. the 550 only has the city navigator maps, but the whole US and canada worth.
The only issue I have seen people having with these models is the compass screen is slow to update, which all the reviews online have mentioned too.https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=134&compareProduct=13424&compareProduct=27442
11/25/2008 at 2:42 am #1898154We are comparing a Nuvi 200 and a TomTom 125.
Does anyone have any info comparing either? Both are selling for about $100 on Black Friday!
Thanks in advance for your help.

11/25/2008 at 3:40 am #1898156Interestingly, I glanced at the latest Consumer Reports magazine today and it rated the top GPS Nav units. No Magellan units were listed. There was one I hadn’t heard of (and consequently have forgotten). The others were all Nuvis and TomToms. I think the 200 was lower on the list, but still was rated 60-ish out of 100. I don’t recall any other info as I only spent a minute or two looking at the data.
I’m thinking of picking up a few 200s come Friday (one for me, the rest for gifts)

Bec,
My understanding is that you are picking up a new laptop, not a GPS. Now, write it down so you don’t forget.

😆 As long as I can get a $300 one, yes. I plan on being there at 5am.
11/25/2008 at 5:31 am #1898159We’ve had our Nuvi 200 for about 8 months and really like it. It’s easy to use and also download into. Sunshine likes it since I used to always insist I was going the right way even when I knew I wasn’t. It’s made our caching in unfamiliar places much more enjoyable. We’ve also used it several times to find food and gas. If you don’t want to spend a lot I would recommend it.
