Wisconsin State Historical Society (WSHS) is hosting an event at Whitefish Dunes State Park in Door County about Maritime History. This event will be the grand kickoff to the WSHS latest maritime caches. These caches focus on maritime heritage sites in and around Door County. They are tying it with a maritime exhibit opening on Saturday, May 14th; 10am to 2pm.
The WSHS Maritime Heritage Division worked with the Wisconsin Maritime Museum a few years ago to create a geocaching booklet and caches based on sites in Two Rivers and Manitowoc area. A similar booklet is being created for the Door County caches. Currently all the booklet caches are active through their cacher – WiscMaritime.
The event features the opening of the exhibit with speakers; Sherry Klosiewski (State Park Chief Naturalist) and Tammy Thompsen (Maritime Heritage Archeologist). In addition WFDSP is working with Ray Osinski, a local cacher (Dumpa), to offer geocaching programs. The idea is to offer at least two different programs; Learn How to Geocache and Make a Cache. We are looking for volunteers who could assist with leading or co-leading the programs
