how about how many caches does that top hider keep up out of the ones they put out

I read every log that comes across from my caches, and I look for problems, such as wet or full logs, or perhaps MIA,s, etc. Sometimes it might take a couple of weeks, or perhaps more, before I get to check, but I do have an ongoing maintenance list.

I have a beef though ….. someone says the log is full, but when I get to the cache, someone has replaced it or put a new one in. I wish I was told this, and so save myself a trip.

I’d be willing to bet that similar stories could be told by other cache owners and not just in this list. By and large most active cachers do a pretty good job of staying on top of stuff.

It is frustrating to see cache owners (even if they’re out of the game…kinda/sorta/maybe/who knows?) let their caches malinger through months of DNFs and needs maintenance logs until they are eventually force-archived. But that’s another topic.

I have a feeling I know where Shrek and Fiona are coming from with their question and that was a question I had also so I wouldn’t be insulted as it is a valid question especially having a feeling as they are in our area and probably run into the some of the issues we have with caches. While we appreciate profilic hiders and the oppurtunity to pursue their caches, at times the hides are lackluster or have had maintenance logs posted and not followed up on before they are archived.
I may not have a ton of hides, but my goal is quality not quantity and every cache I place I try to make it so that at the end of the day you remember it when you log it.

thanks for the help on that one it looked like every one wanted to beat me up for asking how many are kept up to the number the big hiders put out

I apologize if I misunderstood your question. To answer your question, 201 of our 201 active hides are kept up and regularly maintained.

Here here! And I’d add to mine that at the end of the year, when someone brings up an S|S cache in conversation, you remember it still.

Forcing myself to slow WAY down for a time and have gone to the extreme of shutting dozens down over winter, just so I didn’t have to deal with broken or exposed containers. I try to let everyone know that they absolutely DO NOT need to free my caches from ice to get credit for the find. If you can put your hands on an S|S cache, that’s good enough for me. I wince every time I have to read “cache was frozen in place, but we managed to chip it out” ouch! We live in Wisconsin and hide objects on the ground, what do you think is gonna happen?

Still a ton of stuff on my needs maintenance list and I have got to give myself a little time, that’s the hard part. Much easier to sit here and waste a half hour in the forums than it is to re-build a combination lock cache that needs new WP locations (in this crappy weather), a new puzzle and a relocated final…
