I see a bunch of caches approved by Surfer Joe. Who is he?

    Marc, Marc, Marc,

You really need to listen to more Neil Young music. If you did, you would be familiar with the little known Neil Young song “Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze.” Here are the lyrics:

I’ll introduce you to Surfer Joe
    He may be there,
    I really don’t know
    We can smoke garfong
    and watch him ride
    the big one.

    Come on down
    for a pleasure cruise
    We’re all going
    on a pleasure cruise
    Come on down
    for a pleasure cruise
    Plenty of women,
    plenty of booze.

Come on down, come on down
    Come on down, come on.

Here’s a story about Surfer Joe
    He caught the big one,
    and he let it go
    There’s somebody satisfied
    with winning.

Here’s a story about Surfer Joe
    He caught the big one,
    and he let it go
    He’s somebody satisfied
    with winning.
    He’s somebody.”

Anyway, from those lyrics, I would say that Surfer Joe is the alter ego of Moe the Sleaze, a MN cacher of longstanding. Moe is now the approver in MN, and is using the Surfer Joe name as his reviewer’s name. I have never met him, but I figure anyone who gets their handle from an obscure Neil Young song cant be all bad.

He is the geocahcing.com reviewer for Minnesota. There is a cacher up in the NW corner that was having some sort of a mass release of caches, both in MN and WI. All of the WI caches were reviewed by me or Grousetales and found to be OK, but it was Surfer Joe who published them (all at the same time).

According to Lynard Skynard he is someone a southern man doesn’t want around…

    Sweet Home Alabama

Well I heard mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don’t need him around anyhow

    Hi Rangerboy,

You cite one of my favorite Skynard songs, and a song Neil Young himself covered on occassion. Dispite the feud about southern racism on vinyl, Neil Young and Lynard Skynard were fans of each other, and were often seen wearing each other’s concert tee shirts.

There is even an urban legend that Ronnie Van Zant was buried wearing a Neil Young t-shirt, and that Neil was one of Van Zant’s pall bearers. Neither rumor is probably true, but believed by many. Van Zant’s tomb had to be moved after people tried to dig up the grave to see if he really was buried in a Neil Young teeshirt, as reported.

Anyway, this all has nothing to do with cachin, but I couldnt resist to the urge to respond to the post about Neil Young. Almost inspires to put out a “Southern Man” cache.
