Here is the conclusion of a quote direted at me because of another statement that offered a simple blessing in the posted log. Another cacher took it upon his/herself to attack the “blessing” and anyone who might also express their beliefs in the same fashion. The blessing was offered very near the 4th of July and is quoted as “God Bless America.”

Someone then decided to attack the poster for offering their “blessing” on their experiences of the day.

Being mostly adverse to unprotected assaults, I decided to protect certain Constitutional rights. Here is the response I received from the owner of the cache.

“I DONT WANT TO KNOW YOU! YOU ARE INSANE! “

Should I be offended and/or should my wife and child be concerned?

It is hard to believe that a geocacher would respond this way, and hard to imagine what might provoke such a response from anyone. I am lead to believe that there is a need for professional help for somebody in this mix, and I don’t mean anyone who has posted in this thread as yet. 😕

Generally, I dont take people who type in all caps too seriously. So, no, I wouldnt worry about it.

Unfortunately, I simply cut and pasted the quote. I would have loved to post the entire e-mail, but certain parts would offend and make even the hardest of soles blush and it might throw a shadow over the reputation of a popular cacher.

I wish someone would have told me ahead of time that geocaching and the WGA are intended only for Atheists. If you could only read the e-mail thread…………

I have no tolerance for intolerance and bigotry.

      #1892015

It appears that we are to be tolerant of everything except Christianity.

The sentiment of “God Bless America” does come on the heels of some document that was written long ago, by the founding fathers who went out in search of religious freedom.

apparently this is no longer PC (sad, sad, sad)

      Hope I didn’t offend anyone 😕

Sorry to hear that, Matt. People need to realize that this country was founded under the tenets of GOD and Christianity. We come from all walks of life, and everyone has the right to believe and pray as they wish, but also respect the rights of others to do as they wish. Not sure which cache you posted the blessing on, and I don’t need to know, but if I had seen it, I would have saluted you for doing it.

I don’t know what to say, except for, to each their own. I see no need to bash anybody for their beliefs or nonbeliefs. I would like to add a few comments, but this would just lead to a pages long rant and rave. By the way, “God Bless America” and each and every one of you.

Was your log and the others involved deleted on the cache page? I searched a lot of cache logs and found nothing even close.

Quote: “I wish someone would have told me ahead of time that geocaching and the WGA are intended only for Atheists. “

Without knowing complete facts, I know I am ashamed of any geocacher that would send an email with so little respect for another’s opinions. But I also hope that classifying all “geocaching and the WGA” as Atheists was an unintentional remark also.

In six years of geocaching we have met some of the most wonderful people, most of which we now consider friends. In the mass population of geocachers, as in the overall population, there are probably bound to be that percentage of people that have no consideration for others.

I feel geocachers are a wonderful group, but reserve the right to “ignore” the few that I find that are intolerant of others.

Unfortunately any activity has its share of idiots. Unfortunately we’ve been on the receiving end of some of this stuff in the past too, which is why we changed our geo-ID to one that is more anonymous than the one we started playing the game with….

You could search forever and not find “the log” if you are looking for logs posted by me. I did not post a log that stated “God Bless America.” That was done by another cacher and notes were posted after that persons log. I just checked the cache page and the “found it” log and notes are still there. I e-mailed the first person who posted the intolerant note and then the owner of the cache jumped into the mix. The e-mails between myself and the poster of the first note were mostly civil, but the jump-in e-mail by the cache owner was not so friendly. In fact it was quite nasty.

Since I started this thread, the e-mails from the cache owner continued to spew hate and intolerance toward me and anyone who feels the need to protect Constitutional rights for all.

I know the cache owner is reading this thread and maybe he/she should reread my e-mails. I’ve not expressed my personal religious beliefs anywhere in the text and I’ve not attempted to force religion on anyone. My e-mails were intended to point out the intolerance and bigotry of the stance posed by the individual who felt the need to bash the patriotic American who included the National Motto in their “found it” log.

Additionally, I do not feel the need to state the names of anyone involved and/or the cache listing where this all started. Even though the cache owner has expressed his/her hate for me, I don’t want a flood of e-mails directed at any of the parties out of respect for their privacy.

I didn’t want to stir any pot and would certainly never confront said individuals. If this tread is causing that much of a problem, then maybe it should be locked?

I have met many very nice people while participating in this game, and would not trade that for anything! Take care!

Keep doing what you do. If it were me and I found more caches of said person I would put the same thing in the log and more. Kill em’ with kindness (that is what I was taught).

W.T.F.???? I thought that geocaching was supposed to be FUN????!!!…

Not a “Soap Box” for a Political or Religious debate… We all have our own beliefs, and we live by them as we believe what is right… If things have gotten so bad for some of you people that you feel compelled to interject your personal hatred into a simple hobbyist web site, maybe it’s time for you to take a step back and take a look at your lives???… Huh???…
Doh!!!!! We’re all a bunch of knuckleheads using a multi-bajillion $dollar military satellite system to find ammo cans, film cannisters, tupperware, and who knows what else, placed who knows where, by who knows who, just for the fun of it… Can we just keep it that way????????????

      !!!!!!!!!!!STOP ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!
