Events give prizes for all kinds of activities that aren’t related to finding permanent caches. This is no different.

If you’re so against the idea of temp cache placement solely because they can’t be logged online then so be it. There are many other people who feel differently.

No, your mistaken. I’m not against placements. “IF” there is ever another event at at Wissota Park again, and I if I have found all the permanant cache, I would go out with a group of people and look for temps. I enjoy talking and caching with others that I have not met before. There were perms and temps to hunt. I chose to hunt hte perms. I chose to sit around the gathering and meet people. All in all, if ity was not for Elfdocotors, I probably would not have got 25 that day.
My beef is that I should have the same chance at a drawiing as everyone else did. Being rewarded/penealized for finding a cache is not fair.

Lets say a GPS was donated to the WGA for the event. Shouldn not everyone who attened have the same shot at winning it? If I donated a prize to the event should I say it’s only for those who DID NOT find a temp? A lot of prizes were donated. I might think twice next time to donate anything if the prizes are not given away on a level playing field.

Well, I guess it’s a moot point anyways, cuz there will never be WGA Camp Out north of Hwy 8 anyways. So I’m done with this topic for now.

Why is this not fair? Everyone did have an equal chance at going for the prize, if they chose to hunt temp caches. Others chose not to.

It reminds me of a CITO we attended last year. If you brought back interesting trash you had a chance to win a prize. Not everyone brought back something.

And more important, the event organizers have the freedom to set up games and contests any way they see fit, just as we have the freedom whether or not to attend or participate.

Well, why not? Your prize, your contest.

The same logic could be extended to ask why anyone attending an event should be rewarded with a chance to win a prize, and shouldn’t all WGA members have the same chance of winning? Were members that didn’t attend the event penalized?

    #1887199

You just don’t get it. If I would have left at 4am to be at the park by 6ish, maybe I could of tried to go for them all. If I lived closer, maybe I could have already found the perms na dcould have gone after the temps.
I could care less if I won a prize. I just want it to be fair. And in my opinion it not. Will i ever get back down to the park, no clue. Maybe.
But I will tell you, IF I ever go to another WGA event to a place I never been to before, I’ll go find a perm before a temp.

In the poll, what was the % that said that they would not Attend the event if there was not Temps? Why? Whay can’t you revist a Perm? I think that’s a good question Why can’t you????????? And why, cuz YOU CAN’T RELOG IT!

So why is there even a WGA no log Temp Policy?????????? I hope you guys get elected and change it!!!!

No!!!! My comments were not ment to be EXTENDED!!!!! YOUR TAKING IT FULLY OUT OF CONTEXT! I was one that nominated you Brain and almost whish i hadn’t!!!!!!!!! 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿

I’m sorry you feel that way, Chris.
I don’t think I’m taking your comments out of context. If you didn’t find temps (I didn’t), you didn’t get a couple extra tickets. If you didn’t attend the event, you didn’t get any tickets. The bottom line is that the tickets were a reward for doing something.

It reminds me of a CITO we attended last year. If you brought back interesting trash you had a chance to win a prize. Not everyone brought back something.

Prizes were also rewarded just for showing up. That’s pretty fair for a CITO event. The cleanup effort was an activity of the event.

Thing is, if an event has activities those activities should be fun. Everyone enjoys a chance to “win” and it adds to the fun of the activity.

Another example of an event activity with a prize. The “turkey shoot”. Some choose not to play so they are not eligible to win.

Another example, the night cache competition offers prizes for those who hide a cache and get voted the best. Some choose not to play so they are not eligible to win.

Should we allow everyone a chance at “winning” for those activities too even if they didn’t participate?

Perhaps we should make hunting perm caches an event activity then. Put raffle tickets (or a stamper? or a codeword for micros) in all the local perm caches in and surrounding a park. Would that make it more fair?

Sorta getting off-track here but I still think temp caches WITH prizes is a worthwhile activity at our WGA events.

But you received an unfair advantage for doing one specific part of an event that wasn’t a required part of the event. I have brought my son to some of events and he likes getting prizes, so yea it’s is kinda frustrating knowing that you have a smaller chance to make your kid happy that he won a prize. And no, I don’t teach him that he has to win everything but it is nice to win every once in a while!

I may be mistaken here, but my understanding is that NancyJo, aka Gr8 Eyes, spent most of her time assisting with the West Bend event and was able to get all of three tickets for finding those caches.

Guess who won the big prize? I know all of us have different reasons for making the choices we make, but we do have that power of choice. As a member of the current board, the prize tickets were another attempt to try and have something for everyone, and it sounds from this discussion as if that’s just an impossible goal. 🙁

You can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot please all the people all the time.”

    #1887206

Yeah Rob, we knew that, too, but had hoped at least this move would close the gap a bit. Hopefully it did. It sounds from some posts that there were people who enjoyed whatever caches they found simply for the joy of discovery. Ultimately, at least in the beginning, that’s what this is supposed to be about. Really, having worked the tables at the past two events has opened my eyes to how much bigger the WGA is than the vocal minority of us in this forum. Many attend the events that rarely if ever post, and often, rarely even log their finds, permanent or not.

I think it might be most productive at this point for this discussion to remain focused within the context of the candidates corner, and that’s all the more I’ll say about that!

Sorry JD and CH, but I just don’t get this.

If the event wants to have a raffle where everyone who shows up gets a ticket, that’s great.

If the event wants to have a raffle where only people who do a certain event at the event get a ticket, that’s great to.

It’s not a matter of unfair advantage, it’s a case of those who play, get a chance to win. Those that do not, do not. And everyone had an equal chance to play, so it’s completely fair.

OK !!!! Plain and simple. The WGA does not want multi-attend logs for it events. WGA puts out Temps. And then GIVES credit for finding temps.
Somewhere, somehow. that just makes my head hurt trying to figure out.

Can’t the temps just be put out with out being rewarded for finding them?

And WGA members who did not attend the event were cheated is stupid.
HOW MANY CACHERS EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE WGA???? Or even from Northwest WI??? I talked to cachers last week who emailed me to ask what it was cuz of the link on my cache page.

The LOGO is STILL wrong! It should be ESEWGA!!! Cuz thst is what it is and always will be.
