(About) how many new caches were published in WI last year?
(About) how much has this grown over time?
On the Left Side of the Road...01/03/2009 at 3:05 am #1899619… quite a few.
……….quite a bit.
01/03/2009 at 3:08 am #1899620OK, here’s how you answer your own questions:
1. Log onto GC
2. Goto ‘my account’ page
3. Click on ‘newest in Wisconsin’ on right side, below stat bar.
4. Start paging thru til you find the first of the year for whichever year you want. Then get lots of fingers together, and start the math process………01/03/2009 at 3:09 am #1899621@marc_54140 wrote:

agree with quite a few, but quite a bit? more like a lot……there wasn’t even 500 hidden in the state when I first started
01/03/2009 at 3:57 am #1899622I think 3849
191 full pages with 20 on each + 17+12
01/03/2009 at 4:14 am #1899623I’ll trust ZB. We all know Marc can’t count.

I would have to agree, a lot, there wasn’t much more than 500 in APPLETON when I started….just kidding, there was a lot more ..marc, wheezer, dinktank and a few others had found them all.
01/03/2009 at 6:05 am #1899625From my GSAK database I end up with 4117 caches placed including events in 2008 and archived caches.
That’s up a bit from 3368 placed in 2007. There may be a few more that were placed in ’07 and archived before I started.2006 – 2183
2005 – 1374
2004 – 536
2003 – 352
2002 – 236
2001 – 69Numbers for earlier years are a little skewed because of caches being archived, but it still shows the trend.
Anyone want to make a guess on total caches placed in ’09?
01/03/2009 at 3:10 pm #1899626I think it will be about the same as this year.
01/04/2009 at 2:04 am #1899627Here are stats complied by Riviouveur, who reviews caches for France. As of
May 30, 2007 there were 6,098 caches in Wisconsin. 18 months later on Dec. 8, 2008 there were 10,201 caches in Wisconsin, which was a gain of 4,103 or 67.3%. As of Dec. 6 there were 60.1 caches per 1,000 kilometers, 183.6 caches per 100,000 population, ranking Wisconsin 34th and 27th respectively out of 143 states and countries worldwide.01/04/2009 at 5:16 pm #1899628The problem with this sort of analysis is that there are a lot of caches archived over the same time period, including many which are both published and archived over the same year. I can’t speak for WGA3,. but I published 2493 caches in 2008, including events. I’m guessing she published about the same.
01/04/2009 at 8:59 pm #1899629Yep, we added to that count a bit with the Cache Ba$h 😳 LOL 😉

I’m not sure which analysis you referring to, but I mentioned that the numbers I posted didn’t take into account any caches archived before about 7/07. GR asked for “about” how many, and “about” how much it’s grown. I would say the number for 2008 are pretty accurate, and the previous years less so.
Just because I have too much time, here’s some more useless info…
3 caches placed in 2001 were archived in 2008
14 caches placed in 2002 were archived in 2008
52 caches placed in 2003 were archived in 2008
57 caches placed in 2004 were archived in 2008
194 caches placed in 2005 were archived in 2008
362 caches placed in 2006 were archived in 2008
605 caches placed in 2007 were archived in 2008
208 caches placed in 2008 were archived in 2008These numbers may not be exact, but should be pretty close. The last one is interesting.

Very interesting.
Now can you tell us the percentage of caches archived of total caches in Wisconsin using these numbers?

I’m not sure which analysis you referring to,
I was referring to the stats posted by Ken, which measure the growth of the sport, but not the total caches published. In your case, if you are taking a regular query of the whole state and manually recording those archived caches, you will only be missing those caches which are published and then archived between your queries (not that significant, but you’d actually be surprised how often this happens).
