i have noticed latly that the geocoins are starting to have custom icons in user stats. we bought a michigan geocoin and about a week after we got it, the icon changed from the coin to the michigan geocaching icon.
was just wondering when the wisconsin one come out if there was any plans to do anything like that.
here is a link to my user stats, if you don’t know what i am talking about, check out our owned items and the icon for the michigan coin.

If anybody has any ideas for their own geocoin icon, please post it here.

Michigan used an outline of their state, which would be the easy choice.
10/10/2005 at 4:18 am #1759934since the michigan coin icon changed from a coin to the michigan geocaching organization icon well after i got it, this may be something that can be done after the coins are out too. seems like it would probably be a icon of wisconsin of some sort so you would know what type of coin it was by the icon.
also i wouldn’t think it would cost more to do either. seems like you would probably just sumbit choosen design to use, and it would have some size/type file it would have to be.they just used their organizations icon as seen on their website http://www.mi-geocaching.org/index.php

10/10/2005 at 4:31 am #175993510/10/2005 at 3:46 pm #1759936I had heard that it costs some $2000 to get a coin to show up as an icon. Was a reliable source, but I would til investigate for sure. I thought that if it cost that amount, add another $1 on the price of the coin and have it done!! I’d pay $7 for a coin.. no problem!
10/11/2005 at 1:02 am #1759937The custom icon is part of the cost of the tracking numbers.
I already sent the information regarding the icon to the board as well a possible sample art. This information included correspondence from GC.com about the icon as well. I can only assume they are fully aware of it.
The two sizes are 32×32 and 16×16 pixels.
The fact this is even an issue is amazing.

10/13/2005 at 3:48 am #1759938Some ideas my Wife and I came up with…
10/14/2005 at 5:11 am #1759939How about a simple iconic oak leaf, much like what is used for the Oak Leaf Trail? …I’d suggest a leaf from the state tree, sugar maple, but it’s too associated with Canada.
10/14/2005 at 4:56 pm #1759940I personally think a simple picture of our state is fine for the icon. Anything else would “busy” it up and make it look sloppy. They put words, or symbols on them and not only are the icons hard to read, some of them are just…well…UGLY! The point here: Wisconsin has a new Geocoin! Anyone holding a coin will know that the WGA has “sponsored” it. Not to mention those who read the Groundspeak forums. And then there are those who collect them…
Just my opinion!
