I started playing with my new toy today (my new laptop). Believe it or not Rushford,MN has a Wifi signal floating around. I felt like Newton when the apple hit his haed. What a discovery. I was totally blown away. I can see so many geocaching applications with that technology. How is Wifi coverage in some of WI’s cities (ie Eau Claire, Oshkosh, Wausau)?

I know there are a few spots in Baraboo where it is floating around. I used it last year when grabbing some caches at Devil’s Lake SP. I just turned on the PC and drove around until I got a signal then found a parking spot. Worked great. I think more then once I was on someones personal WiFi that was unsecured. 😆

I like driving around looking for unsecured wifi. But still feel like I am stealing if I use it.

I never thought of doing that. Hmm.

Last summer, we were up north at the family cottage belonging to the parents of Trekkin’ and Mr. Timberline Echoes (who are brothers). Anyway, our technogeek teenage nephew came running out as we pulled up and said, “Gwyn, I can take you in the boat around the lake, where I found three open WiFi spots for your laptop.”

I think I crushed the poor lad’s spirit when I said, “I didn’t bring the laptop. I come up here to get away from that stuff!”

But I can think of more than one time when I thought it would have been great to get site access and find a few more caches on the road. Have at it!
