It may be a bit early to be thinking of this, but since it was refereed to in another thread, I’ll bring it up here.

If enough people plan on camping at Roche-A-Cri State Park for the picnic (Friday and/or Saturday night(s), park personnel may consider leaving the outer loop open for camping that weekend. As it stands, there will be 25 non-reservable sites available to the public that weekend. If you are considering camping for all or part of that weekend, please mention that here so we can get some idea of how many campers there will be.

If you were wondering if you might need overnight accommodations, here are some approximate driving times to the park (no stops for caching figured in 😉 )

Rapids, Tomah, Mauston, Dells, Wautoma: 35-40 minutes (+/-)
Wausau, LaCrosse, Madison, Oshkosh: 1.5 hrs. (+/-)
Eau Claire, Beloit, Appleton: 2 hrs. (+/-)
Green Bay, Milwaukee: 2.5 hrs. (+/-)
Eagle River, Phillips, Platteville, Kenosha: 3 hrs. (+/-)
    Hayward: 4 hrs. (+/-)

My family is considering camping for the picnic. I did enough research to note that the sites were not reservable at that time and that it was first come first served. Still not committed just yet.

We will be camping and arriving on Friday. If Sunshine can get off from work we’ll leave early. Otherwise we’ll be leaving at about 2:00 PM. If all of the sites are full I google mapped the Sandlanders backyard and it looks like there is enough room for 3 or 4 tents.

We’re planning on camping for the weekend — 1 tent, 2 persons.

    😯 😯 😯
Those Google maps are good! And if people have smaller tents or don’t mind getting chummy, we can fit a few more in.

Did the maps tell you that we have only one bathroom at our place? 😉

    I have a shovel 😉

We will not be camping. I think I will stay at my parent’s cottage that weekend.

My family camps in a pop-up trailer. Are the sites there typical state park campsites that can fit an average sized pop-up and vehicle?

Yes. We see pop-ups there all the time, plus larger campers. No utilities and no pull-throughs, though. Sites are all wooded ones. Most are pretty level.

Thanks! That describes typical state park camping so that’s cool. 😀

We might just camp then. I regretted putting away the trailer fairly early last year so this gives me an excuse to keep it functional. I remember thinking last year we could have camped well into October and still been comfortable.

We will be tent camping. Most likley the last one for the season. Two adults and 2 troublemakers, I mean kids. They have school so we will leave as soon as they are done. If by chance there are no spots left we will stay at the other state park just down the road.

We’re planning on camping again this year. Possibly two nights.

Might be camping. Depends on a few things. If not at the park, we might stay at Pineland just a few miles down the road.
