AstroD-Team is going on a weekend excursion to the Northwoods in January. We thought this would be a great place for geocachers to meet and have fun for the weekend.
Our question (based on the info provided below) would anyone be interested? The gathering would be held near Mountain, WI at YMCA Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya.
Each cabin has a furnace and a fireplace and sleeps 18 (bunk beds), Full use of the facilities including cross country skies and boots (miles of trails w/i the camp), sleds, ice skates, snow shoes, ice shanty, Access to a sauna on the lake front and Heated bathrooms with private showers. We would hide some temp caches at the camp and there is another 15+ permanent caches within 15 – 20 miles of the camp.
Approximate cost per person would be $15.00 depending on number of attendees. This price includes two nights lodging (Friday and Saturday) and use of all camp facilities and equipment. Plus the fun of hunting caches.
You will need to BYO food and drinks, sleeping bags, pillows etc. Each cabin has a deck that can accomodate small grills. There are a few nearby restaurants and grocery stores. There is also the local bar that’s within walking distance.
We are looking at a weekend in late January or early February. If there is enough interest, we will be willing to get this organized.

Don & Kat:
A definite possibility if not scheduled on the other weekends we are up there. I could help with set up too. I know we could find some neat hiding spots that would keep everyone thinking and not Doze-Inn.
11/10/2004 at 1:47 pm #1748010Definitely interested in this event. Would depend on which weekend however, before I could commit fully. I will keep watching this tread for more information. Sounds like a great idea.
Uncle_Fun11/10/2004 at 3:44 pm #1748011Since I live in Mountain I will probably show up for the event but not stay at the camp. If you need any help I’m around and could help set things up if you want. Something tells me sweetlife might be able to help as well, (I only say that because I think they are geocrazy!) I would love for more people to find my cache that is placed on the crosscountry ski trails in winter.
11/10/2004 at 3:45 pm #1748012Not to let this out too early but the City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry is planning a geocaching component to their Winter Jan-Boree event the weekend of Jan 21-23. Temporary hides through the various venues the Jan-Boree event uses. I have a call into my source to get more details.
Can we work around this weekend?

11/10/2004 at 5:23 pm #1748013Ok, the date for this event will be January 28-30, 2005.
I have talked to the camp and they are very excited to have our group up there. I have also received their blessings to place as many caches on camp property and the surrounding county lands as I want.
We are in the process of creating a cache page for this event. Please check it out for details!

11/11/2004 at 6:49 pm #1748018Sounds like fun. We’ve never cached on snow … maybe we will be in desperate need of training around then … so can I write that off as an educational expense?
11/12/2004 at 3:05 am #1748019Say..a winter jamboree in Waukesha one weekend..another winter event up north the next..sounds like a fun way to get through the winter blahs to me.
11/12/2004 at 4:17 am #1748020Sounds like fun — count at least one more.
11/13/2004 at 12:13 am #1748021Sounds like fun! We’ll stay at our cabin a few miles away, but can’t wait to be a part of this. Pencil us in, we’ll start planning on it.
