OK. I knew about this a few weeks ago but I thought ” No way will that ever happen for me” Then comes the Camp-out and a few rousing fireside tales from Zuma!, plus a RUSH of caching goodness and now I have set my sights on the goal! ( It didn’t hurt that furfool just posted that they have the 9th edition at the Home Depot and the one by work ahs the same closing discounts!)

I uploaded my file and I am up to 9 pages done! (Wow and I just started this morning! nyuk, nyuk, nyuk)

I was just putting this out there for anyone who thought that it was too big of a challenge, or who has passed on the idea before, to maybe give it another look. Or for those newer-ish to caching like myself, to give you a great goal to start out with!

We had also said, “Nope, never gonna do anything like that,” but popped our stats in and were surprised at how many pages we already had…especially since we’re in a tri-state region and cache thusly. From that point, we started looking at ways to get pages while traveling for other reasons and probably filled 2/3 to 3/4 of the pages before we had to start making “creative” routes and plain out runs. But really, we’ve done maybe 2 trips so far strictly to get DeLorme pages. We have three left and will complete those when we go to our niece’s graduation party in DePere in a couple weeks.

We’re glad we did it when we did, because gas prices are getting scarier now, but we have seen so many interesting things and visited parts of Wisconsin we’d never have found otherwise. These days, I can watch the news or read the State Journal and when they talk about some place like Dugway Road or Jump River, we can say, “Yup. We found a cache there!”

Good luck in your travels. Every person who does this has different stories to tell. We did a goodly number of hardcore caches, trying to get as many in a chosen area as we can, to reach this goal, cause we enjoy that the most. But we’ll admit to the occasional, “Yup, that gets us page 30″ ones, too.”

I just did my very first pocket query after reading these posts – only to find that I have 19 pages done already!! woot!!

I think I’ll go for it slowly right now, but this summer, when we are out travelling, I’ll make a point to do a few.

    Great idea.

I just picked up my Delorme Atlas. Looking forward to getting started. It is going to be tough getting to Northern WI. Now might be the time to get the motorcycle running and let the RV sit.

No…there are paved roads up here and everything despite popular belief. So it’s really not all that tough. 🙄 😉

Are you sure? My mom’s place is down a three mile dirt road with no electricity or running water.

The DeLorme challenge has actually determined where we go on our camping trips. Last summer was Rhinelander, this summer is Bayfield, next summer will likely be someplace in the NE corner of the state. Fill in a couple missed pages here and there along the way……

That is a good idea. Now I have another reason to explore different parts of the state. 😀

    Wow. I hadn’t checked in a while. We’re 1/4 done! 🙂

If heading up this far north,(Eagle River) you will find some great caches. Hopefully the weather will warm up and the leaves will actually come out. Still getting touches of frost at night and when we were at Gov. Dodge this weekend guess there was snow falling up here… have to love the northwoods.

    Speaking of the DeLorme Challenge…

It’s been noted that the 2008 atlas is much different than previous versions. Since newcomers to the challenge might not have access to an old version, attached to this post is a file listing each page and the coordinates of the border on each side. This is the same data that the DeLorme Checker uses to figure our which pages you’ve completed.

Ummm…do you find this checker-thing-ma-jig? Not that I’m even close to finishing the challenge.

This may come as a shock to you, but some of the Delorme pages are south of Highway 8….
