Unfortunately, I haven’t had a whole lot of time for geocaching lately, not to mention giving attention to this cache as it deserves, so I’ve decided rather than archive it, I’d like to pass it on to someone else who is interested in maintaining it.
Tidbits:
- Recently, DeLorme issued a new edition of their atlas which has different pages based on the one the cache currently uses. It’ll be up to you do decide what to do about that.
- You’ll be responsible for verifying eligibility. The Challenge Calculator that I wrote is broken, and I don’t have the time (or the desire) to fix it, not to mention updating it to deal with the two different versions of the atlas. Once the cache is adopted out, I’m going to disable the calculator.
- The cache is currently located in *CENSORED*. You can choose to keep the cache there (if you’re able to maintain it) or you can place your own container anywhere you choose.
- The eligibility rules are pretty standard, but once it’s yours, you’re free to change them any way you like.
If you’re interested, please send me a PM and I’ll fill out the adoption papers!
06/09/2010 at 4:38 pm #1930673As someone who has this one high up on the “to-do” list, I appreciate the attempts for adoption. I certainly hope someone is up to the challenges laid forth as I’d really like reach this point of accomplishment in my “caching career.”
06/09/2010 at 5:07 pm #1930674Like I said I’d be willing and I have plenty of time on my hands, but the only problem is checking the requirements. I don’t know of an easy way to check them and if anyone had any suggestions on how to I’d gladly take care of this cache 😀
06/09/2010 at 6:55 pm #1930675Answers to FAQs:
- The calculator is written in PHP and draws from a MySQL database. If you’re a programmer and want to give it a shot, I can send the files to you, however they are very lightly commented, and the class that actually does the GPX file parsing will make your eyes water.
- Everything is fine on my end; with my three kids getting older and getting involved in their activities, I just haven’t had as much time for things as I used to. Rather than see this cache languish, I’d like to have someone give it the attention and care that it deserves.
06/09/2010 at 10:28 pm #1930676I’m no computer programmer that’s for sure. Nothing else carries a program like that? Like cachestats or gsak? Yea I’d hate to see this go too so I’ll do what I can to help! I’ve been looking at different delorme challenges to see what they do.

We would be honored to adopt this one, would have to decide on moving the final or not, as we have not actually found the cache, but have completed the challenge,
GSAK has a Macro That can be used to check to see if it is completed and I can use that.

THANKS!
For all that you have done! A great legacy and a uber fun challenge cache!
Many thanks!
SGH & BB06/10/2010 at 5:17 am #1930680And definitely keep the old DeLorme….I searched and searched to find it….and it’s all marked with what I have done already.
Macro for GSAK works awesome, so it would just be a matter of bookmarking caches that qualify, running and loading pocket query into GSAK. Seems like that would make it simple to verify.
And don’t move it….right now it’s on my way to pick up my son when he comes north from Chicago! I haven’t yet completed it, but one of these days….
Thanks to those who have stepped forward!

might be better for someone local to take it, then I would still be able to log it someday 😀
06/10/2010 at 1:27 pm #1930682Who say’s you can’t log it? I have a couple of Lil’ Otter caches that I adopted that I have yet to find. But when I do, I’m loggin’ em.
06/10/2010 at 2:19 pm #1930683Not sure if there are official rules on finding your own cache but I know I’ve read several posts about it on GC’s forums and generaly consensus is it is not socially acceptable to find your own cache even if adopted.
– That being said- it may not be a lot different than making finds on puzzles without doing the work.
I’ve adopted caches and before I clicked on the “ADOPT” button and made it official, I poured a lot of looking into the GZs to make the find.
Like most things- this is just my opinion which only counts to me. My dog doesn’t even care what I think.
Some do only puzzles, some only do multis, some never touch puzzles, some don’t find caches and only hide them and others just the opposite.
It’s this great diversity that makes the game so much fun.Following the signals from space.
06/10/2010 at 2:26 pm #1930684Well, I don’t want to get into the discussion about logging your own finds, I’ll just add that two of the casche I adopted are 2 of the Page 104 caches. I will put this out there, Do you have to delete you find on a cache after you adopted it? Cuz it’s now yours.
06/10/2010 at 3:27 pm #1930685If they changed the coords and moved the cache after you found it , would you delete your find as it’s not where you found it? The past has happened and the future is still out there.
When you get an adoption, there’s posted a note that you are now the owner. As the owner, you are privy to hints, details that aren’t on the cache page.
Cheezehead, that’s why I added my comments about “opinons”. There’s always differing viewpoints and circumstances.
I’ll not talk about this anymore so as to not enflame anything.
Please don’t get offended.

No offened at all. And you are incorrect. There are no extra hints or details to the 2 caches or the other caches I adopted at the time. I have had other cachers email me for hints and I ask them to contact the previous finders cuz I have no clue to the locations. I adpoted the cache as a service to my fellow cachers because at the time these were the only Page 104 caches at the time(I think). They are also some of the first cache in the state and were also part of a 52 part series. So your darn tootin’ I’m going to log them as finds cuz I’m just much in the dark as to the cache location as anyone else.
But I do respect your opnions. And we all play the game the way want. Besides who really cares? Ya can’t win and there is no prize. -
