I found a pair of geocaches by lake Petenwell this afternoon, each containing a handwritten note, “Found in Arkansas”
A review of the logs and a quick search of the forums revealed nothing.
For sure there is a story behind this? One of the two caches was “don’t eat the mushrooms” by Cheeto. GC15KNN
Cheeto, please share (unless by chance you didn’t know and this cache magically reappeared in Wisconsin after being discovered in Arkansas?)03/14/2010 at 11:49 pm #1925185This is the cache GC15KNN
I don’t know why though.
There is a cache by the same name in Alabama
03/14/2010 at 11:55 pm #1925186Maybe if you eat the mushrooms, you just think you went to Arkansas to find the cache. 😉
03/15/2010 at 12:22 am #1925187I suspect the cacher who found it was FROM Arkansas.
They just didn’t use correct english in their physical log signing?
This is my cache and it’s never left that trail as far as I am aware!

They just didn’t use correct english in their physical log signing? Its your cache and you probably know better than I do, but this was a totally separate piece of paper placed in cache, not a page from the logbook. The words “found in arkansas” were written upon them.
There was no date or other information written on this sheet of paper. Unless someone does not speak English as their first language (a possibility), I don’t understand how someone could make that mistake.Hypothetically
Lets say the cache really did grow legs and a clueless cacher took the entire cache container with them to Arkansas, rehid the container in Arkansas, a cacher finds this box in the woods, looks up the GC# and realizes this cache was in the the wrong state..
Could this cacher return the cache to Wisconsin and rehide it along the trail where it is supposed to be without anyone noticing, only leaving a short note in the cache explaining what happened? It’s unlikely, but sure would make for an incredible story.
Based on how I interpreted the note, I almost expected a story similar to what I just described above.
03/15/2010 at 12:44 am #1925189Could have been a note that was in a baggie with a TB or Geocoin or some other swag.
03/15/2010 at 12:45 am #1925190Or maybe their geocaching nickname is “in Arkansas”. ha!
03/15/2010 at 12:49 am #1925191I have a feeling this mystery may never be solved.
03/15/2010 at 3:45 am #1925192I would guess they were using a Magellan and really thought they were in Arkansas that’s about the accuracy of those things.
03/15/2010 at 1:50 pm #1925193Magellans and mushrooms. Bad combo.
There is a thread about a Wisconsin cache being found on the other side of Lake Michigan, but I can’t seem to find it.

Ouch! I guess I may be the only one fighting for Team Magellan. My orginal Magellan eXplorist 210 that I bought for $99 over three years ago, has found me over 1300 caches and all 53 caches this summer at the Cache Ba$h. And saved me hundreds of dollars. No mechanical problems, and a low number of DNFs. The GPS doesn’t find the cache.
I am guessing they were using a Garmin and ran out of gas money or were distracted by the color screen. Or were frustrated using all of the bells and whistles.
Go Team!!

03/16/2010 at 2:26 am #1925196Magellan eXplorist 100,200,210, and 400 all got me to the cache.
I think it was the 210 for the mushroom cache. No problem.go team!

03/16/2010 at 2:50 am #1925197Explorist 200 and 400… too bad i tend to drop things. a lot. Triton 500 is faring much better though. i suppose it has to do with dropping on grass and snow vs. rocks in the desert.
03/16/2010 at 2:56 pm #1925198Go Team Go!! Lift your Magellen high and say “Explore This!”
…then retreat back realizing that our orange backlit screens only can lead so far, and that the rubber will come off some buttons, and the screen will scratch.
NO MATTER. GO TEAM!
