What if their logo starts including copyrighted elements like Signal the Frog (that we can’t use)?
Another question to ask is whether we want the logo to mean something to non-geocachers… I am not sure if this is important or not. The current logo may suck but it displays the three things needed for geocaching (public land, a GPS, a container). Would non-cachers understand what the four colors and the black X are for in a logo like the Maryland Geocaching logo?
There was a pretty big discussion on this topic on the new WGA website/forums between our beta testers… based on the informal poll we took, most (>70%) agreed that the logo should be changed/refreshed but other things (i.e. campout planning, etc.) were much more important and should be given priority over the logo change.
And here is a design that Bunny FuFu (Anne) came up with (hopefully she is OK with me posting it ):

It has “the badger state”, assosiation name, wisconsin shape,lat./long. lines & numbers, and a great compass rose. seems simple and to the point, theres no reason to clutter the logo with ammo boxes or gpsr’s.05/23/2006 at 10:01 pm #1744710I like the comment about the front of the geo-coin … I agree with that.
I also agree that we don’t need to show the GPSrs or Ammo Box. Yes it might not “explaining” things well to non-geocachers … but why would you anticipate that something like a logo would serve that purpose any way.
I suspect that if you never heard of geocaching … just about any symbols would be meaningless to you. I suppose to any outsider … they might currently see our logo and thing we’re into calculators and shoe boxes!
05/23/2006 at 10:50 pm #1744711I also agree with Hogrod’s comment. A hidden advantage to this is that only one side of the coin will need to be redesigned for the next edition. (I’m hoping for a Greyhounder badger on the next one!)

There are no shortcuts to any place worth going05/24/2006 at 1:49 am #1744713I recommend you involve someone with professional experience who knows a thing or two about design. If that person is a geocacher, so much the better. In particular, I’m thinking of Snow Goose, who designed the T-shirt for the 2005 WGA Campout (the best design we have had, IMHO).

Never. I love the badger!
Think of all you could do with the badger – coins, tshirts, keychains, etc… Then you could branch out to other animals too!
