I’ve seen the “WSQ” on several cemetary caches. I’m making plans to place my first cache in a nearby cemetary next Spring…can I just use the WSQ thing when I post my cache, or is their some official organization I need to register for first? I’m more than willing if I have to, but I’m just wanting confirmation so that I do things properly.

Just go ahead and create it. The WSQ is just to let folks know its a cemetery hide…there’s no oversight committee…and if you post the GC here Marc 5 digits will also see this post so he will no doubt add your cache to his bookmarks of cemetery hides….
10/23/2008 at 1:06 pm #1897020Just a note about naming:
Preferred is: WSQ Name
Do not use any extra spaces or characters such as hyphens, quotes, etc.
10/23/2008 at 1:09 pm #1897021I like the WSQ idea and will get around to changing mine eventually. The only problem I have is when the cache owners name the hides similarily and then in my Palm, it is a pain to scroll through each one since only several letters show up on the main cachemate page. I have the same problem with the Another Walk in the Park series…
10/23/2008 at 1:31 pm #1897022After some lively debate with Mr. Marc we have followed a WSQ # naming convention for our cemetery caches and will probably go back and edit some of the ones that go back a few years also.
Apparently the main reason for this is that some GPS devices limit the number of characters that can show for a waypoint so this allows for easier identification.
And also, it is quite easy to have several “St. Whoever Cemetery” within a short distance of each other.

No, but there is a group that started placing caches in Indiana about the same time that Spirit Quest caches began showing up in WI (I believe), that has spread to other states, that claims the moniker of “Genuine [name of state] Spirit Quest Caches.” To get on their master list, you have to follow their template and register your cache with them. Do a name search on “Indiana Spirit Quest” on gc.com and there is some info there.

There really is no significant difference in those who claim an “official” Spirit Quest cache and any other cemetery cache. Supposedly “official” ones are in historic cemeteries, but what cemetery is not historic? To me, all cemetery’s tell someone’s story.

Agreed…I just brought it up b/c I had seen this verbiage for the first time recently and wondered what the heck that claim was all about…just in case others have the same question.
On the Left Side of the Road...10/23/2008 at 11:18 pm #1897026The reason the wording is there is so maybe the Shadow will visit.
For the coin and pathtag people, if you do not use the Indiana Template and use their “verbage”
The shadow will not be here to leave either pathtags or the saught after Shadow coins.
That is the reason for the way our pages are worded, have been working on this series since MWGB where we met many of the ISQ members

10/23/2008 at 11:58 pm #1897027The only thing I don’t understand about the ISQ and subsequent series is why a dog is required to hide and hunt…I get the feeling we’re missing an inside joke…

is it the Shadow or the Phantom?

10/24/2008 at 2:15 am #1897029I think it is a little tacky and a huge slap in the face to all the cachers in WI who have WSQ caches hidden for well over a year to be told these new ones are the official ones. And for as much as I disagree with alot of what Marc has to say, these new caches are really a huge diss to him because of all the hard work he has done to get the wsq going and not being mentioned in them or the implication that his work to get them all started isn’t very important.

Actually Marc’s WSQ 001 Streckert is almost 4 years old…don’t know if there are any that are older but I suspect he might.
On the Left Side of the Road...10/24/2008 at 3:32 am #1897031There really is no individual or group that has any more or less claim to make a WSQ cache official or not official. If you want to say that your’s is “official,” there does not seem to be much harm in that.
If you want, you can cut and paste the following on your cache page, and call it “official”
<marquee bgcolor="#CCCCCC" loop="infinite"
scrollamount=”2″ width=”100%”>** THIS IS AN OFFICIAL WISCONSIN
SPIRIT QUEST CACHE** <br?As this is classified as a cemetery cache please note it is NOT hidden on any grave marker or site. If there is a service going on, or folks are visiting their loved ones when you arrive please be respectful and come back at a later time. Your understanding and compassion for those folks will be appreciated.
10/24/2008 at 3:40 am #1897032Like I said earlier, its not a slap in the face or a dis on Marc. The wording came straight from the template. Including the Naming of them, Spelling out Wisconsin Spirit Quest, I was informed that this will make it hard for those who have older GPSr’s that only have 6-8 digits for the name, we use a GPS72 so we feel your pain also, and have had this problem many times.
Posted earlier was a picture of the phantom, NO its not the phantom its the Shadow
These are the coins
None of these postings are to be a slap in the face to anybody, Marc has allready emailed me and the only problem he found with the caches was the allready stated above with the 6-8 digit smart names GPSr’s will be programed with using GSAK
