Actually, it says the start of the hunt is September 15.
I dunno – it sounds intriguing. After all, I ran all around the state doing caches for both coin quest games. But that didn’t have an entry fee.
08/08/2006 at 8:18 pm #17638148) I see that TMJ4 news just profiled this t-hunt last night (7August2006) on their 10PM newscast. They interviewed the guy putting it on along with his wife and daughter.
According to John Malan back in the studio, it would be a piece of cake for a meteorologist to solve the puzzles as they work with maps and math all the time. Hmmm!
08/22/2006 at 8:56 pm #1763815A couple interesting updates on this whole thing …
(1) A couple weeks back the local paper had a 3/4 page article interviewing the couple out of Grafton that is running this thing. Not an Ad, but the normal weekly community interest article. Seems to be an idea they’ve had in their heads for a few years and are finally giving it a whack. They do NOT appear to be geocachers (I was starting to wonder if maybe they were), in fact in the article they make mention that this is NOT geocaching and point out the differences (I’m glad they did that).
(2) Now in last week’s paper there was a small update to the article … basically indicating that “no matter what” the will be giving out at least $5000. At the time of the article they only had 10 people signed up … now the website indicates 14 people.
Still not sure what I think of the whole concept. But while I suspected they would not get many takers, I’m surprised that they have had as few as they do.
10/09/2006 at 9:19 pm #1763816From what I can tell in their forums (http://americantreasurehunts.com/forums/forums/show/1.page), they had about 22 participants and a team from Sun Prarie won the $5000. Next hunt starts Oct. 20th with the same minimum $5000 prize. At $100 registration fee, I’m not sure this business plan is working. Maybe they’ll attract more participants. Did any WGA members participate?
10/09/2006 at 9:35 pm #1763817There was an article about it in last weeks local paper, since the “hiders” are from the neighboring community. They also interviewed the locals that “seeked” the thing … including 2 groups from Port Washington and one from Saukville. Sounds like they had fun, got together with their neighbors and made a party out of it 30 mins before each clue’s unveiling. Sounds like that group missed “winning” by about 15 minutes … I believe they were first in the Park, but had about a 1 hour delay in getting their final clue where to look in that Park (due to the accumulated lag times of their prior answers) … so while they were waiting for the wife left at home to call with the final clue, the winning team arrived in the park and swooped it away from them (since they had the final clue sooner). Sounds like it was hidden in a hollow tree stump … who would have ever thought.
