Was driving home from supper this evening and saw the coolest thing!
At first glance, I thought it was a stray llama. But no! It was a deer — a white deer!! Not super close, but I could certainly tell it was a deer once I had pulled to the shoulder of the road.
Was musing whether it was an albino or white deer….
Then suddenly 2 smaller white things appeared — babies!
There were 4-6 other, regular colored deer there as well. It was such a lovely sight. There are quite a few spottings of white deer in this area, but I was never lucky enough to see them myself.
I really enjoyed this special moment.

This guy is living on private property behind my parent’s house. These pics are about 2 weeks old. I’ve seen him a twice this summer. The local say they have seen an albino spike and fawn running around the area also. The same camera has also pcked up timber wolf.
These are pics from last Dec. or so.
He’s starting to get old. 5-6 years old now.

We have albino squirrels in Mecan Township, I get occassional emails from a friend of mine when they are in his bird feeder. I saw an albino deer in a glass case on vacation. In the Eagle River Public Library, it will be on your left when you enter the library. That was pretty cool. But seeing one alive must have been an experience. Liked the website shared too about the meaning of seeing a white deer. After reading that…wishing you success on your journey!

We have a white deer living near our home just south of Burlington. He’s kinda short and chubby and almost looks more like a large goat. He’s frequently spotted near the homes in the area, I’m sure he’s getting fed quite well around here.
We also saw an albino deer last month while driving in northern WI. It was the middle of the night and we caught site of something standing on the side of the road. We thought, “no…that can’t be…was that just an albino deer???”. So we turned around and went back for another look and sure enough, there it was, pure white with red eyes. It practically glowed in the dark. We watched it as it went off into the woods and could see it for quite a while since it had no cammo.It is not uncommon to see an albino around our area.

Sorry for the tiny pic, but we got this in Boulder Junction a couple of years ago.
I saw another one a few months later right next to the road. I stopped the van and slowly pulled up until it was about two feet away looking in the passenger window. No camera.
One of my co-workers was telling me about an albino deer that hangs around her parents’ cabin home. I can’t for the life of me remember where it was, maybe around Hayward?
I’ve never seen one myself, although some years back, a guy shot one during deer season around here. Caused quite a stir in the media.

I had been under the impression that white deer were protected. But I was just told this weekend that they aren’t (due to CWD). Not sure if this applies to albino deer as well though. Sad — they are so lovely.
Now, I want to see an albino deer. I love the red eyes!

I was told that if they have any brown… even a square inch they are legal to hunt. There is a mounted one at the Three Lakes school and it has a brown spot the size of a hand, the person who shot it thought it was ileagal and dumped it. It would have been legal so the person should have fessed up and could have kept it. Oh well this way everyone gets to enjoy it.

TEYou are right. Albinos are off limits to hunting and piebalds are legal. Anysize patch of brown is needed. I don’t know why albinos are protected though. It is my understanding that they weaken the gene pool. If anyone knows, let me know.
I know I could look it up, but it’s more fun letting someone post the answer… What is the difference between an albino deer and a piebald? Are piebalds the mutant looking deer with the moose antlers?
The top 2 set of pics are of the same deer. The deer is getting older and has mixed up genes to begin with so his antlers are starting to palm-mate(is that a word 💡 😕 ?) The same thing applies to non-typical deer antlers.
Albinos must have pink eyes and and the hooves will be white or pinkish. There are while deer with black eyes, so I guess one like that could be leagely shot.
There is a cache west of Minong that is more or less set up with a chance to run into a pair albinos running in the area. Off the top of my head I do not remember the name of it.
